Volleyball Keeps Tournament Title at Home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Ephraim, UT --- The Snow College Lady Badger volleyball team hosted the first ever Snow Invitational and were relentless on not letting another team take home the championship title.

FRIDAY
The Badgers started the weekend play against the Utah All-Star Team defeating them in four games (25-22, 25-13, 20-25 and, 25-21). #Brenna DeYoung#, #Taylor Castillo# and #Amy Sorensen# rallied a total 33 kills (11 each) while #Katie Vincent# put down eight kills and had six blocks. #Jaclyn Arave# and Sorensen notched a collective 28 digs (17 and 11 respectively).

The Badgers' 39 kills put a wet towel on Sheridan College as they were only able to score on 22 kills and defend with four blocks.  The Badgers shut out the Generals  in three games (25-15, 25-16 and, 26-24). Sorensen led the team with 11 kills, followed closely by Castillo with eight kills and Vincent with six. Arrave had 13 digs and #Kelsie Rathman# had 23 assists.

SATURDAY
With a tough start in day-two of the Snow Invitational, the Badgers lost to Colby College in five games (15-25, 25-23, 21-25, 27-25 and, 15-17) putting them in the semi-final game against the Utah All-Stars, again winning in four games (25-15, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22).

The tenacious Badgers met the fierce Trojans of Colby College for the championship round, however the Badgers brushed off the slow start of the day and shut-out Colby in three games (25-14, 25-22 and 25-23) keeping the tournament title at home.  Castillo led the team with 15 kills and four blocks.  Sorensen had nine kills, while Vincent had eight kills and four blocks.  DeYoung dominated the net on defense with nine of the teams 25 blocks and jetted into the national standings with the top seat in blocks per set (1.50) and third in total blocks (66).  Coach #Keven John# named DeYoung the Snow College Player of the Week after the tournament, "Brenna [DeYoung] has been making major strides this season and as a freshman will only get better. That is exciting considering she is hitting above .400 and is already the number one blocker in the nation" comments Coach John.

The Badgers have a break this weekend before the start of conference play taking on the Golden Eagles of College of Southern Idaho on Thursday, September 20th at 7PM in Twin Falls, ID and then travelling to Couer d'Alene to play North Idaho Community College's Cardinals on the 22nd at 1PM.

Game coverage will be sponsored by the host teams, use the links below to follow the Badgers through their travels.
