EPHRAIM - The Snow College men's basketball team travelled to Portland, Ore., and came home with a pair of wins in the Portland Tipoff Showcase.  The Badgers defeated host Portland Community College, 88-61, on Friday and then downed Chemeketa Community College, 91-82, on Saturday.

Portland CC is the defending champion of the Northwest Athletic Conference (formerly known as the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges), and the Badgers were able to crush the Panthers on their home floor by 27 points. Snow led by only seven at halftime, 38-31, but then poured on the gas in the second half to run away, outscoring the Panthers by 20 in the second half.

Walter Wright led Snow with 25 points including nine of 17 shooting from the field. Wright recorded six steals and dished out five assists in the game. Gentrey Thomas was back in the lineup after nursing a sore ankle and scored 13 points for Snow to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Le'Jon Johnson was also in double figures in scoring with 10 points. Aziz Leeks had a great game passing as the 6'8" forward from Las Vegas dished out 10 assists.

On Saturday, the Badgers extended their record to 5-3 in the preseason with a 91-82 win over Chemeketa from Salem, Ore. Again Snow took a lead into the locker room, 48-44, and then extended its lead in the second half, outscoring the Storm, 43-38, after the break.

Walter Wright again led the Badgers, scoring 24 points and dishing out seven assists. Through eight games Wright is 17th nationally averaging 22.9 points per game and stands 15th nationally with 52 assists and ninth in the nation with 26 steals.

Three other Badgers were in double figures: Thomas with 18 points, Johnson with 17 and Leeks with 14. Thomas led all rebounders with nine, while Romain Louiserre pulled down six boards for the Badgers. As a team Snow made 10 of their 21 three-point shots with Thomas going four-of-six from beyond the arc and Johnson hitting three-of-six.

The Badgers will travel to Casper, Wyo., over Thanksgiving Break to play in the Optimum Thanksgiving Classic.
