#2 Snow snaps win streak with loss to Eastern Arizona

Box Score The #2 Snow College Badgers dropped their first game of the season 27-37 as the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters overcame an 18 point deficit to win their 3rd straight home outing against the Badgers.  Snow took a 27-9 lead early in the 3rd quarter, but penalties and missed field goals plagued the Badgers in the 4th quarter while Eastern Arizona scored 26 unanswered points to drop Snow from the ranks of the undefeated at 6-1.

Snow started the game strong and looked ready to end their losing streak in Thatcher.  On their first play from scrimmage, QB Stefan Cantwell faked the handoff and threw a deep ball down field that connected with WR Alex Croyle for a 72 yard touchdown. Snow would miss the PAT to take the early 6-0 lead.

The Gila Monsters would level the score 6-6 on a 60 yard touchdown run off the option pitch early in the 2nd quarter as Eastern Arizona also missed their first PAT attempt.

Snow needed less than 2 minutes to score on their next drive as RB Josh Labrador punched in a 2 yard run to give Snow a 13-6 lead with 11:37 remaining in the half.

The Badgers would add to the lead as Cantwell took a snap on 3rd and goal from the 5 yard line, rolled right and threw back across the field to find TE Dalton Fackrell in the endzone to make it 20-6 with 6:01 left in the 2nd quarter.  The Gila Monsters cut the lead to 11 with a 42 yard field goal before the half.

Snow would score their final touchdown with 9:12 remaining in the 3rd quarter on a 4 yard pass from Cantwell to the corner of the endzone and Dalton Fackrell's second touchdown of the night to make it a 27-9 game.  Snow kept the 18 point lead for most of the quarter until Eastern Arizona scored on a 9 yard QB run with 34 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the lead at 27-16.

Snow went 3 and out on their next possession and the Gila Monsters took advantage of the momentum by blocking the ensuing punt and recovering the ball in the endzone for a touchdown on the first play of the 4th quarter.  After an unsuccessful 2-point attempt, Eastern Arizona began the 4th quarter trailing by 5 at 27-22.

Eastern Arizona took their first lead on an 83 yard touchdown run with 8:44 left in the game to make it 27-30 after a successful two point conversion.

The Gila Monsters blocked their second punt of the night as Snow was punting from their own goal line.  The punt made it to the 39 yard line, but Eastern Arizona used the momentum to score on the next play with a 39 yard touchdown run and the final score of the night to give the Gila Monsters the 27-37 victory.

The loss marks the 3rd straight time Snow has lost on the road against Eastern Arizona.  Snow leads the Western States Football League with one week of regular season play before the playoffs.  The Badgers will be back at home to take on Pima on Saturday, October 24 at noon for the final game of the regular season.
