Snow College men’s basketball team split road games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EPHRAIM – The Snow College men's basketball team split road games this weekend, losing by one point, 72-71, to USU-Eastern in Price on Thursday, but rebounding strongly to beat Colorado Northwestern (CNCC) in Rangely, 79-58, on Saturday. The loss drops the Badgers into fourth place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC), a half-game behind North Idaho which upset third-ranked, and previously unbeaten, Southern Idaho on Saturday.

In Price on Thursday, Snow led by as many as nine in the first half, but could not make it hold up as the Eagles shot 59 percent from the floor in the second half to earn the come from behind win. There were 15 lead changes in the game. Snow outscored the Eagles 34-18 in the paint, but the Eagles made 10 of 22 three-pointers (46 percent) while the Badgers converted only four of 16 long-range shots (25 percent).

Badger guard Walter Wright led all scorers with 28 points, with Gentrey Thomas adding 13 points, Larenz Stalcup had 121 points and eight rebounds, and Aziz Leeks scored 11. Andre Hogan led USU-Eastern with 19 points, including the Eagles' last two points from the line to secure the win.

On Saturday Snow led by 10 at the break, then outscored CNCC by 11 more in the second half to cruise to the win. The Badgers' 6'10" center Marcus Bryce was hot from the outside making four of six 3-point buckets to share game-high honors with Wright at 20 points. Bryce registered a double-double as he also had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Snow finished with 31 of 64 field goals (48 percent) while the Spartans could manage only 18 for 55 (33 percent) from the field. TerryLee Wedgeworth led CNCC with 17 points and Osahon Eqhosa pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Spartans. Stalcup and Leeks were both in double figures again for the Badgers, each scoring 10 points.

Snow next plays at Salt Lake Community College on Saturday and then closes out the regular season the following week by hosting North Idaho on Thursday, Feb. 19, and Southern Idaho on Saturday, Feb. 21. Salt Lake is now behind Southern Idaho by just one game in the loss column with a record of 10-2 in league play, and Snow trails North Idaho for third place by a half-game at 6-6. The Badgers are 17-10 overall.
