Box Score TWIN FALLS, Idaho (January 6, 2018) – No. 9 Southern Idaho drained a long three-pointer with :03 seconds remaining to take a two-point lead, and connected on a pair of free throws to seal the victory over Snow College, 83-79, on Saturday. While the Badgers came up one stop short, the loss marks the fourth straight for Snow. The Badgers are now 10-7 on the season, and 0-1 in league play.
"Our kids played really hard. I was proud with how they competed," head coach Rob Nielson said. "We had the lead there at the end, and then they hit that three-pointer. But it was a really good effort. We were right there the entire game. We had our chance at the end. We just had to make one more stop and we came up a little short. We'll just get back home and get ready for Salt Lake next Saturday."
All totaled there were nine lead changes during the game. After CSI jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first half, the Badgers battled back to take a seven-point lead in the opening half, and held on to a four-point halftime lead. However, the Golden Eagles outscored Snow, 55-47, in the second half to snag the home-court victory.
The Badgers were called for 21 fouls on the night, while the Golden Eagles had just nine fouls in the game which resulted in 18 more free-throw attempts.
"They're a faster team than we are, and I think we ended up reaching too much in an effort to slow them down," Nielson said. Defensively, both teams had five blocked shots and nine steels. The Badgers had 46 rebounds to the Golden Eagles' 40.
Freshmen
Stockton Shorts and
Jake Walker led the Badgers with 17 points each, while
Logan Hokanson added 15 in the game. Freshman
Traycer Wilson had a game-high nine rebounds for Snow College. Snow College was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
The Badgers will return to Ephraim and will prepare to take on fourth-ranked Salt Lake C.C. on Saturday at the Horne Activity Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (MT).
