TWIN FALLS, Idaho (March 26, 2021) -- The third-ranked Snow College women's volleyball team defeated Southern Idaho in straight sets on Friday, 25-19, 25-15, 25-17, to claim its second-straight, regular-season, outright Scenic West Conference Championship. With the win, the Badgers improved to 21-2 on the season. Over the past two seasons, Snow College has posted a 19-1 conference record, including a record of 9-1 this season.
The Badgers' 3-0 win over Southern Idaho marks the team's fourth-straight, three-set victory and the sixth 3-0 win in the past seven matches.
"Our team is peaking at the right time," Snow College head coach Jeff Reynolds said. "With the region tournament coming up, and a bid to the National Tournament on the line, this is the right time for everything to start coming together. Our offensive is hitting on all cylinders and our defense has been super solid the past few matches. I really like where we are at this point. We've learned some valuable lessons the past couple years about how to manage the post-season, and that experience feels lie it's paying off."
For the second straight match, the Badger defense helped set the tone for the match. Snow out-blocked CSI, 11.5 to 2, led by All-American
Lydia Montague who had a match-high seven blocks. Freshman middle blocker
KJ Strong was credited with four blocks, while
Bridgett Talia,
Camden Strain,
Macie Gordon and
Macy Short all had three blocks apiece.
Jentry Ison and Short each had 12 digs for the Badgers.
Offensively, Snow College hit an astounding .444 for the match, collecting 51 kills on 99 attempts. Montague (.524), Short, (.500) and Gordon (.500) all hit over .500 for the match with Montague and Gordon racking up 12 kills each. Talia hit .400 with 10 kills on 20 attempts, while Strain hit .438 with seven kills on 16 attempts with no errors. Short was also credited with another double-double performance. Combined with her 12 dgis, Short also had a match-high 40 assists,
As the top seed in the upcoming Region 18 Tournament, the Badgers will have a first-round bye and will take on the winner of Southern Idaho and Southern Nevada at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 2 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, Utah.
