Badgers Stay at the Top with 3rd Win of the Season

Box Score

The Snow College Badgers left little doubt to the outcome fo the game Saturday night as they scored quickly and played the entire game without punting on their way to an 84-7 win over McDougal Technical Institute.

"We came into this game wanting and needing to work on some different areas of our game," said Head Coach Zac Erekson. "We haven't needed to pass the ball in our first two wins so we haven't had the opportunity to work on that aspect of our offense."

The Badgers were able to throw for 119 yards, but it was the offense once again that carried the weight of the work. Targhee Lambson rushed for 190 yards on just 11 carries including a long run of 90 yards. Seth Kaelin got his first action of the season and picked up 77 yards on just 6 carries. In all Snow College amassed 364 yards on 31 carries.

"It's good to know that we can run the ball and that we have so many weapons to run the ball," said Erekson. "But we know it all begins on the line of scrimmage with our linemen. We've been able to control the line of scrimmage and that's where our success comes from."

Even though the Badgers only passed for 119 yards, Tommy McGrath had four touchdowns on 84 yards of completions. Taylor Larsen had 50 yards and a touchdown, Marquis Montgomery, Elijah Ervin and Tevita Noa also had touchdowns for Snow College.

"We still need to work on the passing game," said Erekson. "You can work on things in practice all you want, but it doesn't prepare you for game situations. We need to pass more to set up the timing between McGrath and his receivers."

The Badger defense gave up it's first points of the season on a 42 yard touchdown pass from Kohl Meisman to Mario Bynes Jr.

"Those points are on me, not the defense," said Erekson. " The defense had held and forced the punt, but we took a penalty that made them punt again and then we got a penalty that gave the Bison the ball back. That's totally on me."

It seems the only weakness the Badgers have at this point is penalties. Snow College was penalized 14 times for over 140 yards.

"We've got to clean up the penalties for sure," said Erekson. "If we have penalties like the ones we are getting against a really good team like the ones we are going to face it could be the difference between winning and losing."

The Badgers will have Homecoming this week as they host Community Christian College at 7pm in Terry Foote Stadium.
