OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College men's soccer team will play its final road game of the season against Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colorado before returning home for its final homestand to take on No. 2 Salt Lake Community College.
The No. 14 Badgers are coming off back-to-back victories against the College of Southern Nevada (3-2) and Truckee Meadows Community College (3-0). As a result of the two wins, the Badgers improved to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Snow College currently sits in third place in the SWAC behind Utah State University Eastern (7-1) and SLCC (8-0). Not only will the Badgers have the chance to improve their standing with a win against SLCC, but they also play USUE one more time at home.
The Badgers will take on the Spartans Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m. before taking on the Bruins Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.
AND THE WINNER IS… Oliver Fehintola of the Snow College men's soccer team has been named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week after scoring two goals and helping the Badgers earn two victories over the weekend.
Fehintola, a midfielder from Denmark, has played in 11 matches, seven starts, for the Badgers this season. He scored a goal in each match over the weekend helping Snow College defeat the College of Southern Nevada 3-2 Thursday and Truckee Meadows Community College 3-0 Saturday. Fehintola also had an assist against TMCC to aid in the victory.
Fehintola has scored eight goals this season which is tied for 34
th in the country. He is also tied for first place in goals within the SWAC with teammate
Zachary Lifferth and Joseph Valle of Utah State University Eastern.
Fehintola's best game of the season came against Northwest College August 25 when he scored two goals and handed out an assist to aid in a 5-1 victory for the Badgers.
KNOW YOUR FOE: CNCC has struggled so far in the 2022 campaign going 0-11-1 with its draw coming against Northwest College August 26. The Spartans have currently lost 10 games in a row and have scored just three goals over that period.
The Badgers have controlled the matchup history against the Spartans dating back to 2016. Snow College is 14-0 against CNCC over that span and have only allowed seven total goals. Snow College's largest margin of victory was the 9-0 victory in Ephraim September 22 earlier this season.
It's been a rocky history with the Bruins. Snow College has an overall record of 5-14-2 against the Bruins with its most recent win coming on October 27, 2018, in a 3-2 road victory. Since then, the Badgers have suffered eight straight losses and one tie leading up to Saturday's contest.
In its wins against the Bruins, Snow College averages 2.8 goals per game, but in its losses, the Badgers average less than a goal per game. The Badgers suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Bruins earlier in the season as SLCC scored the golden goal five minutes into the second overtime period to claim a 1-0 victory. Snow College will seek revenge against the Bruins at home Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College men's soccer team claimed a 3-0 victory over Truckee Meadows Community College Saturday in Ephraim. The Badgers have now won six out of their last seven matches.
Oliver Fehintola got the scoring started for the Badgers in the fourth minute. He took a corner kick on found the back of the net from point blank to give Snow College a quick 1-0 lead.
Lute Avile extended the lead in the 13
th minute. Avile collected the ball on Snow College's side of the field. He sped to the other end of the field, weaving in and out of Lizard defenders, kicked the ball while sliding to the ground a snuck it past a diving keeper to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead that they would take into halftime.
The Badgers scored their third and final goal in the 61
st minute as Fehintola provided the assists for
James Miles who took the pass and shook the keeper and tapped in the shot to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead and victory.
The shutout is the Badgers fourth of the season and second against TMCC. Snow College dominated defensively as they allowed just four total shots and just one shot on goal. Conversely, they put up 20 shots with 11 shots on goal.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will play its final home game of the season against No. 10 Utah State University Eastern Thursday, October 20, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The sophomores who will be playing in their final game as Badgers will be recognized before the game.
USUE currently holds a record of 9-2 overall and 7-1 within SWAC play, which is good enough for second place behind only SLCC and ahead of Snow College. The Eagles are currently on a six-game winning streak and will take on the College of Southern Nevada Saturday before Thursday's showdown with the Badgers.
