Men's Wrestling Falls in First Dual of Revived Program

In the first men's wrestling dual as a Snow College-sponsored sport since the 1980's, the Badgers were defeated by Western Wyoming Community College 30-18 Wednesday in Richfield.

Snow College took to the mat as a team for the first time this century after it was announced that Snow college would be adding men's and women's wrestling in June of 2021.

WWCC was also playing in its first dual of the season.  The Mustangs entered the dual having finished in fourth place at the NJCAA Nationals last season.

The Badgers competed in 10 total events winning four bouts including the 149, 157, 184, and 197 weight classes.  Snow College fell into an early hole losing the first two matches, one by technical fall and the other by forfeit.

Snow College quickly recovered as Lukus Carrillo took to the mat in the 149 division.  He was able to make quick work of his opponent Jax Coburn and win by fall, earning six points for the Badgers bringing the score to 11-6.

Riggin Stone immediately followed suit in the 157 division.  He earned six points for the Badgers via fall to give Snow College a 12-11 lead.

WWCC responded and won each of the following two matches in the 165 and 174 divisions – one by fall and the other by major decision – giving them a 21-12 lead.

Hayes Dalton and Christian Slack edged the Badgers closer as each was able to win their bouts.  Slack defeated Jacob Fuentes by decision, 8-7 while Dalton was also able to defeat Jaden Strange by an 8-7 decision bringing the score to 21-18.

The Badger's comeback attempt would fall short as they lost each of their last two bouts, one by fall and the other by decision, and they would fall in their opening match of the season 30-18.

Snow College will travel to Prescott, Arizona to participate in the Embry-Riddle: Mile High Open beginning Nov. 11 at 9:00 a.m.  For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
