The Snow College men's basketball team earned an important road victory over Utah State University Eastern Wednesday in Price. The Badgers took down the Eagles 66-64 to improve to 12-2 overall and 4-1 within Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
Snow College entered Wednesday's matchup coming off a 103-50 victory against Community Christian College. This victory was the fifth time the Badgers have surpassed the century mark in points this season.
The Badgers came out of the gates a bit sluggish as they trailed 15-7 at the first media timeout. Eight points would be the most the Badgers would trail by in the first half before heading into the halftime break trailing 37-32.
The Eagles would extend the lead to 43-34 to begin the second half, but the Badgers would quickly put the clamps down defensively. They allowed just eight points over a 10-minute stretch while going on a 25-8 run during that timeframe to take a 59-51 lead with under 10 minutes to go in the game.
USUE would not let go of the rope as they would immediately go on a 7-0 run to get back within one. The Badgers struggled to put the Eagles away. Snow College went just 1-11 from the free throw line in the final nine minutes of action, including 1-6 in the final 33 seconds.
The Badgers led 66-64 with 33 seconds left. USUE had three possessions to try and tie the game or take the lead but missed two 3-pointers and committed an offensive foul, giving the Badgers the two-point victory.
Snow College had its worst free throw shooting performance of the season going just 1-12 from the charity stripe. Its defense was able to make up for its woes at the free-throw line as it allowed the Eagles to shoot just 36 percent from the field including going just 3-13 from 3-point range.
Zach Visentin led the Badgers in scoring as he recorded his second double-double of the season finishing with 16 points on 8-9 shooting and 10 rebounds.
Colin Christensen was the only other Badger in double figures as he put in 14 points and handed out five assists.
Hayden Franson narrowly missed out on a double-double finishing with eight points and 10 boards to aid in the victory.
Snow College will now turn its attention to Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Badgers will host the Spartans Friday inside the Horne Activity Center with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
