Badgers Take Down T-Birds in Top-15 Matchup

The Snow College women's soccer team earned its third victory of the season Saturday as the No. 7 Badgers took down the No. 13 Casper College Thunderbirds.

Snow College opened things up early with a quick goal in the 7th minute off a corner kick.  Mayu Yamamoto served it in from the corner.  The initial header was turned away, but Fiona Jensen was able to finish it off the rebound.

Yamamoto and Jensen would prove to be a good combination as they would again hook up in the 30th minute.  Yamamoto beat her defender to reach the end line just inside the 18-yard box.  She fed a pass into Jensen who slammed it home to give the Badgers the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Snow College allowed its first goal of the season after beginning the year on a 229-minute scoreless streak. It came in the 54th minute when Casper's Grace Conner was able to put one in the net.

The Badgers would get the point right back a few minutes later as Candela Gonzalez and Skye Kennedy executed a two-on-one that resulted in Kennedy taking the feed and had a wide open shot to extend Snow College's lead 3-1.

Jensen was able to complete the hat trick in the 74th minute as she put one past the keeper to give the Badgers a 4-1 lead. Snow College was able to salt away the remaining 16 minutes of action to earn its third win to start the season.

The Badgers were able to put up 24 shots throughout the match, 14 of which were on goal.  McKenna Conley was excellent in net for Snow College as she was able to turn away eight out of nine shots on goal to aid in the victory over the No. 13 ranked T-Birds.

Snow College will begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play Thursday as the Badgers travel north to Taylorsville, Utah to take on the No. 4 ranked Salt Lake Community College in a top-10 showdown.  Kick off is schedule for 1 p.m. at Bruin Soccer Field.
