A golden goal with less than 10 seconds remaining in the match saw Casper College defeat the No. 12 ranked Badgers at home Saturday afternoon. The Thunderbird's Ewan Gordon slipped one past Snow College keeper Nick McNeil to give Casper the 3-2 victory.
Snow College found itself with an early lead as Nick Gummow netted the first tally for the Badgers in the fifth minute. The lead was short lived, however as the Thunderbirds would respond with goals in the 16th and 25th minutes. Casper would take the 2-1 lead into halftime.
Hugo Champalloux and Zachary Lifferth would connect with the equalizer in the 59th minute as Liffereth took the pass and with some fancy footwork evened the score two apiece.
The 2-2 score held over the final 31 minutes of regulation and though the first 10-minute overtime. It was when the second overtime was waning that Gordon was able to net the golden goal with nine seconds left to give the T-Birds a last-second victory.
Snow College totaled 31 shots throughout the match in comparison to just 10 total shots for the T-Birds.
There's no rest for the weary as the Badgers will now turn their attention to Scenic West Athletic Conference play and No. 3 ranked Salt Lake Community College. Snow College will take on the Bruins in Taylorsville Thursday with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
