Snow College Tangles With USU-E in Top-20 Matchup

OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College men's soccer team will travel to Price to take on No. 18 Utah State University-Eastern Saturday.

The No. 16 Badgers are coming off a convincing 9-0 victory of Colorado Northwestern Community College.  With the win, Snow College improves to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

The Badgers are currently riding a four-game winning streak dating back to September 3 when they defeated Truckee Meadows Community College 2-0.  The Badgers have only allowed two goals during the winning streak.  Their last loss came in a 1-0 defeat against No. 2 Salt Lake Community College.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER:  Following Snow College's victory over CNCC, Zachary Lifferth was named the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the NJCAA announced Wednesday.

The Sophomore Forward from Saratoga Springs, Utah and Westlake High School helped Snow College to a 9-0 victory of Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday.  Lifferth scored the first four goals of the matchup within the first 18 minutes of action.  The final three goals for Lifferth came within two minutes of each other.

Lifferth has played in seven games this season, all starts, and has totaled seven goals throughout the year.  He has also handed out one assist.

KNOW YOUR FOE: The Eagles come into the matchup win an identical 6-2 overall record and a 4-1 SWAC record.  USU-E has won three matches in a row and four of its last five.  Its only loss during that stretch came in a 2-1 defeat against SLCC.

The Badgers have played 15 matches against the Eagles dating back to 2016.  Snow College has been victorious in 10 of those contests.  The Badgers and the Eagles squared off three times against each other last season.  Snow College won two out of those matches, the first of which was a 3-1 victory September 11.  The Badgers then suffered a 3-2 defeat in Price October 9.  The two teams faced again in the first round of the Region 18 tournament and Snow College claimed a 1-0 victory.

LAST TIME OUT: It was the Zachary Lifferth show in the first half for the Badgers.  Lifferth had not one, not two, not three, but four goals within the first 18 minutes of action.  The first two goals were assisted by Oliver Fehintola and Aurthur Macri.  The goal that gave Lifferth the hat trick came on a free kick from 26 yards out.  Lifferth bended the ball around the line of Spartan defenders and found the top left corner of the goal.  Lifferth's final goal of the half was assisted by Elijah Tenger, which gave the Badgers a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

Perhaps the most impressive goal game just five minutes into the second half when Fehintola scored on a breakaway.  Fehintola launched a shot from just across midfield and beat the keeper to give the Badgers a 5-0 lead.

Snow College would add four more goals before the final whistle.  Lute Avile Ma punched in a goal from roughly 10 yards out assisted by Ricardo Joasilus.  James Miles would have two goals, one assisted by Jabari Campbell and the other unassisted, sandwiching an unassisted goal from Hugo Champalloux. When the dust settled, Snow College found itself earning a 9-0 victory to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

UP NEXT: Snow College will return home for two matchups against the College of Southern Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College.  The Badgers earned victories over each team defeating TMCC 2-0 September 3 and beating CSN 5-2 September 8.

TMCC is currently 2-5 overall and 2-3 in SWAC play, while CSN is 5-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.  Snow College will play host to the Coyotes Thursday, October 6 at 3:30 p.m., followed by a match with the Lizards Saturday, October 8 at 1:30 p.m.  Both matches will be played at the Snow College Soccer Complex. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
