Badgers to Wrap Up Regular Season Against CNCC in Colorado

GAME NOTES
  • The Snow College men's basketball team will travel to Rangely, Colorado to take on Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. inside the Hefley Gym.

  • This game will be the third and final matchup between the Badgers and the Spartans this season. Snow College is 2-0 against CNCC thus far, and the Badgers haven't dropped a game to the Spartans since 2018.

  • Saturday's meeting will be the final game of the regular season for the Badgers.

  • Snow College is coming off two dominant victories against Community Christian College last Friday and Saturday in Ephraim. Friday's game saw the Badgers cruise to a 131-54 victory, and Saturday's game a 128-55 victory.

  • In both games, Snow College shot 62 percent from the field which is the team's third-highest field goal percentage in any game this season.

  • The Badgers set two season-highs over the weekend by scoring 131 points Friday making 19 3-pointers in Saturday's game, which is the most they have made in a game this season.

  • Snow College's Chase Potter dropped a career high 31 points on 14-17 shooting in Friday night's game. In addition, he went 3-4 from downtown and flirted with a triple-double as he ended with nine assists and seven rebounds.

  • The Spartans are 5-22 overall this season and are 2-13 within the Scenic West Athletic Conference. They are coming off a crushing 96-57 defeat against Utah State University Eastern in Price.

  • The Badgers currently sit in third place within the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.  Utah State University Eastern defeated the College of Southern Nevada Wednesday in Las Vegas which clinched a berth into the Region 18 Tournament.  USUE would supplant the Badgers and enter the tournament as the third seed if they beat CCC in its final two games of the season.  In this situation, the Badgers would be the fourth seed and face host school and undefeated College of Southern Idaho.

LAST TIME OUT

The Snow College men's basketball team cruised to a pair of victories against Community Christian College over the weekend to wrap up its regular-season home schedule.  The Badgers won 131-54 Friday night followed by a 128-55 victory Saturday.

Snow College entered the weekend action set to wrap its regular season home schedule and conclude its longest home stand of the season. The Badgers were just 1-3 during the home stand prior to the victories over CCC.  Snow College was defeated 79-65 by the top-ranked College of Southern Idaho Wednesday.

The Badgers began Friday's matchup by scoring the first 21 points of the game to take a commanding lead. They doubled that lead going into halftime leading 70-28.  Chase Potter led the charge for the Badgers in the first half scoring 15 points.

Snow College continued to surge in the second half, increasing its lead along the way en route to a 131-54 victory.  The 77-point win was the largest victory by the Badgers this season. The 131 total points the Badgers scored was their highest scoring total in a game since a 131-80 victory against Impact Academy Dec. 15, 2018.

Potter paced the Badger's offense as he flirted with a triple-double for much of the night. He finished with a career-high 31 points on 14-17 shooting.  He also dished out a career-high nine assists and grabbed seven rebounds in the winning effort.

The Badgers accomplished a rare feat during Friday's game in which every player that entered the game scored in double figures. Hayden Franson and Max Triplett recorded double-doubles. Franson finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds while Triplett put in 12 points and grabbed 10 boards.

It was much of the same for the Badgers in game two against the Saints Saturday. They scored a season-high 71 points in the first half as they took a 71-29 lead into the break. They proceeded to outscore the Saints 57-26 in the second half to win 128-55 to earn their 18th victory of the season.

Snow College had its best shooting performance of the season Saturday as it shot 62.8 percent from the field, its third-best mark in a game this season, and made 19 3-pointers, its highest total in any game this season. Snow College also shot 62.8 percent against the Saints in Friday's game.

Once again, everyone who played in Saturday's game scored in double figures led by Dylan Jones who had 24 points, all from beyond the 3-point arc. Colin Christensen finished with 17 points while Franson narrowly missed out on another double-double tallying 14 points and nine boards. Gaige Savage also had 14 points and six assists in the win.

With the win on Saturday, Snow College clinched a berth in the 2023 Region 18 tournament. The tournament will be held at the regular season winner, which is the No. 1 CSI.
