Men's Soccer Concludes Home Conference Play Against Bruins, Spartans

OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College men's soccer team will wrap up home conference play against No. 2 Salt Lake Community College and Colorado Northwestern Community College. The match against SLCC is scheduled to kickoff Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and CNCC's match Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Snow College Soccer Complex.

The Badgers are coming off a 1-0 victory over Utah State University Eastern to extend their win streak to four consecutive games. The Badgers are now ranked 19th in the NJCAA Top 20 Poll for the first time this season.

KNOW YOUR FOE: The Badgers are 6-17-3 historically against the Bruins after dropping their earlier matchup this season 2-1. The Badgers currently sit in third place in the Region 18 conference standings behind SLCC and North Idaho College.

The Bruins, who hold a 7-0-1 conference record, are coming off a 7-0 victory over CNCC. Their only tie was a 0-0 tie against conference newcomer NIC. 

The Badgers only took one shot in their previous matchup against the Bruins, a shot by  Ansouname Camara, which found the back of the net. Mathias Christensen faced seven shots and turned away five, allowing two goals.

Snow College will host its last home match Saturday against the Spartans. The Badgers defeated the Spartans 2-0 in their earlier match this season to have a perfect 20-0 record against CNCC.

The Spartans currently hold a 2-6-0 conference record and are coming off a 7-0 loss against SLCC. CNCC will face USUE before traveling to Ephraim. The Spartans only victories are against the College of Southern Idaho (2-1) and Pacific Northwest Christian College (2-1). 

The Badgers defeated the Spartans 2-0 in their earlier matchup this season. The Badgers took 18 shots with nine on goal. Christensen saved all four shots he faced against the Spartans.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College men's soccer team defeated Utah State University Eastern 1-0 Saturday. The Badgers have claimed victories in both regular season games against the Eagles this year. Snow College defeated USUE 3-1 in its earlier matchup this season.

The Badgers are coming off a pair of victories over Truckee Meadows Community College and the College of Southern Idaho last weekend. The Badgers defeated the Lizards 3-2 and the Golden Eagles 6-2.

The match started very physically with a total of five fouls and three yellow cards given in the first 10 minutes of the match. Both goalkeepers had great saves to keep the game knotted at zero before Ansoumane Camara scored the lone goal of the match in the 21st minute assisted by Nefthaly Loya. 

The remainder of the match stayed physical and close with many scoring chances for both teams. There were six more yellow cards given out, totaling nine for the match. 

The Badgers took 18 total shots with six on goal, five of which were saved by the Eagle goalkeeper. USUE only had five shots on goal in 15 total shots, all getting turned away by Mathias Christensen. Christensen now has 33 saves on the season in nine games played.

Snow College currently holds a 6-2-0 conference record and are on a four-game win streak. The Badgers currently sit in third place within the Region 18 standings behind only No. 2 Salt Lake Community College and No. 16 North Idaho College.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will travel to No. 13 NIC Thursday Oct. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Following Thursday's matchup, the Badgers will visit PNCC Saturday Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in Kennewick, Washington. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
