The Snow College men's wrestling team suffered a pair of losses at the Battle of the Rockies Open last weekend in Great Falls, Montana. The Badgers also had eight wrestlers place at the open-style event the following day.
The Badgers entered the weekend following a victory against Utah Tech University Nov. 22. They owned a 4-2 overall record entering the Battle of the Rockies event hosted by the University of Providence.
Snow College started the weekend with a dual against North Idaho College Friday. Three Badgers earned points for the team led by
Rylee Creasey, who won five points via technical fall in the 285-pound bout.
Caleb Marx earned a 15-3 victory via major decision in the 165-pound match to secure four points for the Badgers.
Andre Leota was the third Badger to win his matchup as he won by decision to secure three points. It wasn't enough as the Badgers suffered a 41-12 loss.
The Badgers again scored 12 points against UP. Marx and Creasey both won again by decision in their bouts to earn three points for the team.
Rusten Lyman secured six points as he won his match via fall in 3:49. Snow College suffered the loss, 39-12.
Snow College participated in the open-style event the following day and had eight wrestlers place in the event. Marx won 1st place in the 165-pound bracket. He won his first two matches, one by tech fall and one by decision to enter the championship bout. The match ended in a draw and went into sudden death. Marx secured the win via sudden victory to take 1st place.
Creasey,
Wylie Stone and
Cutler Crandall all finished in 2nd place. Creasey entered the championship following a victory via fall in 2:18 and a victory by decision. Creasey was pinned after a long battle to finish in 2nd place.
Stone won both of his first two matches via fall, one in 6:36 and the other in 1:59, to secure a berth into the 1
st-place bout. He suffered a loss via fall to finish in 2
nd in the 149-pound division.
Crandall followed a similar path as he earned a victory via fall in 1:24 before winning by tech fall, 18-3. He entered the championship match following a medical forfeiture but was ultimately defeated via fall to finish in 2
nd place.
Kenneth Phillips earned a 4-0 victory by decision in his opening matchup in the 197-pound division. After suffering a loss and dropping to the consolation bracket, he earned two victories, one via fall in 1:49 and another via decision, to earn third place.
Leota finished in 4
th place as he earned two victories in the 184-pound division.
Rylan Stevens and
Jordan Free both finished in fifth place at the event.
The Badgers will host Western Wyoming Community College Wednesday in their lone home match of the season. The dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. inside the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield. For video streaming, visit snowbadgers.com.
