Men's Basketball Outshines Spartans, Stopped by USUE

The Snow College men's basketball team split a pair of games against Colorado Northwestern Community College and Utah State University Eastern.  The Badgers defeated the Spartans 87-58 before suffering a 90-58 loss to the Eagles in Price.

The Badgers entered the matchup following a tough 70-66 loss against No. 16 Salt Lake Community College.  Snow College's matchup with the Spartans marked the beginning of the penultimate road stretch of the regular season.

The Badgers opened the game with a pair of 3-pointers from Isaac Finlinson and Isaac Garrett. They would eventually crawl out to an eight-point lead but the Spartans would slowly eat away at the advantage.  CNCC captured a one-point lead, but a quick 11-2 burst gave the Badgers a 31-23 lead with under four minutes to play in the first half.

The Badgers maintained the momentum through the final minutes of the opening period.  A pair of triples from Finlinson in the final minutes gave the Badgers a 41-28 heading into the halftime break.

Snow College caught fire from the field to begin the second half.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from Dylan Jones helped the Badgers extend their lead to 53-30.  Another quick run – this time a 10-0 burst – extended the lead to 31 points with 12 minutes to play.

The Badgers would lead by as many as 34 as they would cruise to an 87-58 victory – their 20th of the season.  With the 20th victory, Snow College has matched last season's win total.

The Badgers have matched the pace of the 2016-2017 team, who also secured their 20th victory in their 23rd game of the season.  The 2016-17 Badgers finished with a 26-6 overall record and suffered a season-ending loss to the College of Southern Idaho in the Region 18 tournament.

Finlinson led the Badgers in scoring with 20 points – his third consecutive 20-point performance.  Jones contributed 17 points while Garret finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Gaius Mewourou finished just shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Following the win, the Badgers traveled to Price for their second of two meetings with the Eagles.  The Badgers defeated USUE 100-57 earlier in the season in Ephraim.  Saturday's rematch would prove to be a different story for both teams.

The Eagles sprinted out of the gate and took a quick 9-0 lead.  Over four minutes elapsed before the Badgers scored their first points.  The Eagles used another 9-0 run which gave them a 20-3 lead eight minutes into the opening period.

The Eagles used hot shooting from beyond the arc to extend the lead out to as much as 24 points before taking a 48-26 lead into the halftime break.  Conversely, the Badgers struggled from the field making just seven total field goals and going 1-12 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles hot shooting continued into the second half.  They extended their advantage to 68-37 midway through the period.  They led by as many as 37 en route to a 90-58 victory.  The Badgers shot just 32 percent from the field and 17 percent from beyond the arc – both season lows.

Snow College will look to flush the loss as it enters its final homestand of the season.  The Badgers will play four straight home games beginning with North Idaho College Thursday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
