Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Coyotes

The Snow College women's basketball team suffered a 70-66 loss against the College of Southern Nevada Thursday in Las Vegas.  The Badgers have now lost six consecutive games.

The Badgers opened up a four-point lead but an 11-2 run from the Coyotes turned things around.  CSN later scored 13 straight points to take a 24-9 lead with under two minutes to play in the first quarter.  The Coyotes would eventually lead by as many as 16 points before taking a 44-32 lead into halftime.

Snow College came out firing in the third quarter.  The Badgers went on a 16-2 extended run in the first five minutes to regain the lead.  CSN fought back and quickly regained a 54-48 advantage before taking a three-point edge into the fourth quarter.

The Badgers erased the lead within two and a half minutes and tied the game at 55.  The Badgers eventually creeped out to a 62-59 lead, but a 9-2 CSN run gave the Coyotes a 68-64 advantage with a minute to play.

A layup from Maliyah Elliott cut the lead down to just two. After a missed free throw, the Badgers had a chance to tie or take the lead with 10 seconds to play but missed on a 3-point attempt and ended up suffering the 70-66 defeat.

Elliott led the Badgers offensively with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Brooke Pennington scored 13 points while Ainsley Thurber recorded 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Snow College will now turn its attention to No. 18 Salt Lake Community College in the regular season finale next Thursday.  The Bruins own a 21-4 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark within Scenic West Athletic Conference play.  They defeated the Badgers 80-62 Feb. 1 in Ephraim.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside the Lifetime Activities Center in Taylorsville.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
