OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College men's soccer team will kick off its 2024 regular season with a road matchup against Gillette College Thursday in Gillette, Wyoming. The matchup will serve as the Badgers' only non-conference road matchup of the season.
The Badgers are coming off a 2023 campaign that saw them go 7-6-1 overall and 5-6-1 with Scenic West Athletic Conference play. Snow College found themselves on the outside looking in on the Region 18 tournament at the end of the season finishing just outside the top four at fifth in the SWAC standings.
2023 BY THE NUMBERS: The Badgers scored a total of 54 goals across 14 matches a season ago. 21 of those goals came in a record-setting performance against Pacific Northwest Christian College as the Badgers earned a 21-0 victory, the most goals the team has scored in a single game in program history.
Defensively, the Badgers allowed 20 goals, just shy of 1.5 goals per game, last season. Snow College record 220 shots, including 119 shots on goal as a team during 2023. The Badgers scored two goals or more in eight of their 14 matches last year.
A PEAK AT THE ROSTER: The 2024 Badgers consist of nine sophomores and 20 freshmen hailing from across the world. Eight countries are represented on the 2024 roster including England, Australia, Portugal, Iceland, Cyprus, and Denmark.
The Badgers return seven members from last year's team.
Jack Cook,
Nefthaly Loya Veronica, and
Luis Pantoja return to lead the charge offensively. Cook and Loya Veronica both were third on the team in goals last season with five while Pantoja recorded four goals throughout the season.
Amir-Leo Beharic,
Ivan Hernandez,
Noah Miller, and
Ryan Taylor return to anchor the Badgers' defense.
WHO'S ON THE SCHEDULE: The Badgers will play a full schedule in 2024 consisting of 16 total games with an even split of home and road matches. Snow College will play two non-conference games before beginning conference play beginning with a road game against Gillete College Thursday and a home meeting against Western Nebraska Community College Sept. 4.
Snow College kicks off SWAC play with three straight road bouts beginning Sept. 7 against Utah State University Eastern. They'll take on preseason No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Sept. 12 before finishing the road trip against Colorado Northwestern Community College Sept. 14.
The Badgers will have play all seven of their conference home games in consecutive fashion. Between Sept. 19 and Oct. 12, the Badgers will not leave the friendly confines of the Snow College Softball Complex beginning with conference newcomer North Idaho College.
The Badgers will host PNWCC Sept. 21 before a weekend tilt against Truckee Meadows Community College and the College of Southern Idaho the following weekend. Snow College will welcome preseason No. 18 USUE to town Oct. 5 before wrapping up their home schedule against SLCC Oct. 10 and CNCC Oct. 12.
The regular season will conclude with four straight road matches beginning with NIC Oct. 17 and concluding with CSI Oct. 26, with games against PNWCC and TMCC sandwiched between them.
AT THE HELM: Jack Larter will enter his second season leading the Badgers from the sideline with hopes of leading his team into the Region 18 Tournament and beyond during the 2023 season.
UP NEXT: The Badgers will wrap up their non-conference schedule against WNCC Wednesday, Sept. 4 in Ephraim.
The Cougars went 8-5-3 overall and 5-2-2 within conference play in 2023. The Badgers have won both of their all-time meetings with the Cougars but have not seen the club since 2018. The last time the two teams met, Snow College claimed a 3-0 victory. The Badgers have scored three goals in both of their matches with the Cougars.
