The Snow College men's soccer team split two games over the weekend against No. 2 Salt Lake Community College and Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Badgers lost 2-1 to the Bruins Thursday followed by a 2-0 victory over the Spartans Saturday.
Snow College entered the weekend with a 3-0 overall record for the season. The Badgers had previously defeated Utah State University Eastern 3-1 to begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
Thursday's game against SLCC was the first matchup for the Badgers against a ranked team in the NJCAA Men's Soccer Top 20 Poll. The Bruins scored the only goal of the first half in the 41st minute. Mathias Christensen turned away three shots in the first half to hold the deficit to one.Â
The Bruins scored again in the 74th minute to extend the lead to two. The Badgers scored their only goal of the game in the 89th minute as Ansoumane Camara found the back of the net.
The Badgers took only one shot in the game that turned out to be their lone goal. The Bruins took seven shots on goal while Christensen turned away five.Â
Snow College then traveled to CNCC to take on the Spartans Saturday. The Badgers were 19-0 all-time against the Spartans entering the weekend and continued their win streak to 20.Â
The Badgers opened the scoring in the 32nd minute from a goal by Max Mayer with Jack Cook providing the assist. Soon after the second half began, the Badgers extended their lead on a goal by Carlos Rodriguez in the 50th minute.
Snow College had 18 shots with 10 shots on goal, while allowing CNCC nine shots with four shots on goal throughout the game. Christensen had three saves against CNCC moving his season total to 18 following the weekend. The Badgers now hold a 2-1-0 conference record for the 2024 season.
The Badgers will begin a stretch of seven consecutive home matches beginning Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against conference newcomer North Idaho College.
