Men's Soccer Hosts WNCC, Begins SWAC Play Against USUE

OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College men's soccer team will play their first home game of the season against Western Nebraska Community College Wednesday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.

The Badgers first Scenic West Athletic Conference game against Utah State University Eastern will be Saturday at Castleview Hospital Soccer Field in Price, Utah beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Badgers defeated Gillette College 5-0 to grab their first win of the season Aug. 22. This was the first time they had faced off against the Pronghorns in program history.

KNOW YOUR FOE: Snow College is 2-0 all-time against WNCC scoring three goals in each previous matchup. This will be the first time the Badgers will suit up against the Cougars since 2018.

The Cougars currently have an overall record of 1-1-1 for the 2024 season after coming off of their most recent loss against No. 4 Indian Hills Community College.

Snow College is 12-8 against USUE all time and is currently on a two-game losing streak after dropping both games against them last season. The Badgers are 6-4 all-time in road games against the Eagles historically.

The Eagles have an overall record of 0-2-1 to begin the 2024 season entering the matchup with the Badgers. Saturday's game will be the Eagles' first SWAC game as well.

WNCC and USUE have faced each other earlier this year with the Cougars taking a 2-1 victory over the Eagles. USUE was ranked 18th in the NJCAA Division I Preseason Poll, but have since fallen out of the top 20 in the most recent poll.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College men's soccer team kicked off its regular season with a 5-0 victory against Gillette College Thursday in Wyoming.

The Badgers got the scoring started early in the first period. Jack Burman provided the assist for Max Mayer, who scored in the 17th minute giving Snow College the 1-0 lead.  They scored again moments later in the 20th minute as Aiden Moore scored off a pass from Ansoumane Camara.

Snow College extended the lead in quick succession early in the second half.  Mayer recorded his second goal of the game off an assist from Luis Pantoja in the 56th minute.  The Badgers scored again just three minutes later, this time it was Burman, who was on the receiving end of a helper from Omer Sagiv.

The fifth and final goal for the Badgers came as Noah Miller fed a pass to Nefthaly Loya, who found the back of the net in the 68th minute to give the Badgers a 5-0 lead.  They salted away the final 22 minutes of action and earned the shutout victory.

Sam Banfi and Mathias Christensen helped pitch the shutout from goal as they combined to turn away all seven Pronghorn shots on goal.  The Badgers recorded 10 total shots throughout the match, eight of which were on goal.

With the victory, Snow College begins the season 1-0.  The Badgers will play one more non-conference game before starting Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

UP NEXT: Snow College will continue conference play against Salt Lake Community College Sept. 12.  The matchup is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. in Taylorsville, Utah at Bruin Soccer Field.

The Bruins are ranked second in the NJCAA poll with a record of 2-0-0 for the 2024 season. They have defeated Central Wyoming College and Casper College to start the year.

The Badgers are 6-13-3 against the Bruins historically with a record of 0-1-1 last season. Snow College has a 2-7-2 record against the Bruins when playing in Taylorsville. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
