Women's Basketball Falls to NIC, CSI

The Snow College women's basketball team fell short to North Idaho College (72-57) and the No. 13 College of Southern Idaho (67-51) last weekend in Ephraim. The Badgers now hold a 12-8 overall record and fall to 1-4 within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

Snow College was coming off a 61-46 loss to Utah State University Eastern the weekend prior in Price.  The Badgers have now lost five of their past six games after starting the season 11-3.

The Badgers kept the 1st quarter against NIC close as they only trailed by one entering the second quarter with a score of 16-15.

The second quarter remained close as the largest lead of the quarter was the five point lead the Cardinals had with 7:41 left. The lead then swayed back and forth until the Cardinals hit a last second tip-in to secure a 32-30 advantage entering halftime.

NIC started the 3rd quarter off with a 7-0 run to go up 39-30. The Badgers scored their first points of the quarter with 6:21 to go. However, the Badgers couldn't maintain the deficit in the single-digits and fell behind 51-39 to enter the fourth quarter.

The Badgers scored 18 points in the final quarter, their best quarter of the game. However, NIC still managed to outscore the Badgers by three points in the fourth and earned the victory, 72-57.

Maliyah Elliott (So./Auburn, Washington/Auburn Mtn. View HS) led the Badgers offensively against the Cardinals as she put up 15 points to lead the team.

Snow College then hosted No. 13 CSI to wrap up the weekend. The Badgers opened the game with a 4-0 burst before the Golden Eagles answered back with a 12-0 run. The Badgers fired back with a 9-4 run in the back half of the first quarter to push the game 16-13 in favor of CSI.

The Golden Eagles went on a 15-5 run through the first seven minutes of the second quarter. Snow College went on a 6-2 run to wrap up the first half, but entered halftime down 33-24.

CSI maintained a three possession lead throughout the first five minutes of the second half. However, the Badgers started chipping away at the lead and pulled the game back within one after going on a 14-7 run to wrap up the third quarter. Snow College outscored CSI 21-13 in the third quarter.

However, the Badgers stalled in the final 10 minutes, getting outscored 21-6. Snow College ultimately fell 67-51.

Sydnee Smith (Fr./Grace, Idaho/Grace HS) was two rebounds shy of a double-double after scoring 10 points and securing 8 boards against CSI. This was Smith's fifth time scoring in double figures this season.

The Badgers will continue conference play Thursday against their in-state rival Utah State University Eastern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside the Horne Activity Center. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
