Women's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to USUE

The Snow College women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Utah State University Eastern Thursday night in Ephraim. The Badgers lost 51-50 in the rivalry rematch against the Eagles. Snow College now drops to 12-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The Badgers were coming off a two-loss weekend to North Idaho College (72-57) and then No. 13 College of Southern Idaho (67-51). Snow College is now on a four-game losing streak – their longest of the season.

The Eagles had the lead of 5-4 in the first quarter when Brooke Pennington (So./Springville, Utah/Springville HS) sank three free throws. This started a 9-0 run for the Badgers to go up 13-5. Snow College maintained the lead and entered the second quarter leading 15-8.

The Badgers kept the Eagles at arm's length midway through the second quarter with a 22-14 lead before both teams were held scoreless of a stretch of more than four minutes. The Badgers entered halftime leading 24-19. Iyana Beh (So./Murray, Utah/Murray HS) netted 12 points in the first half for the Badgers.

The Eagles went on a 14-8 run to start the second half to push the score 33-32 in favor of USUE. This was the Eagles first lead of the game since 7:13 left in the first when they were up 5-4. Snow College fired back with a 6-0 run to regain the lead at 38-33.

The Badgers maintained a two possession lead until 3:41 left in the game when the Eagles cut the deficit to 46-43. Snow College held onto the lead until USUE tied the game at 50 with 42 seconds left.

The Badgers had a promising look when the Eagles turned the ball over with five seconds left, but committed a turnover themselves and gave USUE two seconds left. The Eagles looked to score and were fouled with less than a second remaining. USUE knocked down one of its two free throws and stole the game 51-50.

Despite the loss, Beh led all scorers with 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her third career double-double in Snow College colors.

The Badgers will now go on the road and face off against No. 11 CSI Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m. in Twins Falls, Idaho. Snow College will then travel to NIC Feb. 1 at 1:00 p.m. in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
