The Snow College women's basketball went 1-1 over the first weekend of Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Badgers suffered an 84-52 loss against No. 19 Salt Lake Community College before earning an 89-54 victory against Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday.
 
The Badgers have been idle since suffering a 66-62 defeat against Western Wyoming Community College Dec. 9 in Ephraim. The loss was the first home defeat of the season for the Badgers who entered conference play with an 11-4 overall record.
 
Snow College got off to a rough start in the first quarter.  They trailed 19-2 before making their first field goal of the game with under a minute to play in the opening period.  The entered the second quarter trailing 19-5. 
 
Snow College scored on consecutive possessions to start the second quarter but the Bruins responded and went on a 15-2 run to take a 34-11 lead. The Badgers would enter halftime trailing, 38-16.
 
The Bruins' third quarter was their best of the game as they scored 24 points and outscored the Badgers by double figures. They finished the quarter with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to take a 62-30 lead into the fourth.
 
The fourth quarter was the Badgers' best of the game as they scored 22 points. It wasn't enough as the Bruins went on to win 84-52.
 
Just two Badgers finished in double figures led by Maliyah Elliott (So./Auburn, WA/Auburn Mountain View HS), who finished with 15 points.  Brooke Pennington (So./Springville, UT/Springville, HS) added 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the loss.
 
Snow College turned around two days later to face CNCC in Rangley, Colorado.  This was the first matchup between the two teams since Feb. 25, 2023, as the Spartans canceled their 2023-24 women's basketball season.
 
The Badgers got off to a much better start against the Spartans. Elliott capped a 12-3 run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Badgers a 21-10 lead with 3:30 left in the first quarter.  Snow College would take a 26-18 lead into the second period.
 
Snow College caught fire in the second quarter. The Badgers held a 40-26 lead with under two minutes to play before they drilled four consecutive 3-pointers to end the half on a 12-0 run. They took a 52-26 lead into the halftime break.
 
The Badgers maintained the momentum in the second half as they outscored the Spartans in both the third and fourth quarters. They went on to secure an 89-54 victory. Snow College made 11 3-pointers in the victory which is tied for the most it has recorded in a game this season.
 
Elliott led all scorers with 23 points while also dishing 8 assists.  Kiriana Hawaikirangi (So./Kalgoorlie, AUS/Eastern Goldfields College) and Sydnee Smith (Fr./Grace, ID/Grace HS) both finished with 13 points to aid in the victory.
 
With the win, the Badgers improve to 12-5 overall and 1-1 within the SWAC. They will travel to Price to take on Utah State University Eastern Thursday. The Eagles own a 9-7 overall record and also went 1-1 in the opening weekend of SWAC play. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center.
