The Snow College women's basketball team gathered two wins at the Eagle Classic last weekend in Price. They defeated Central Wyoming College 69-54 and Eastern Wyoming College, 81-47.
The Badgers are coming off the Gila Monster Tournament in Thatcher, Arizona. The Badgers took two of their three games, knocking off Cochise College 68-42 and Yavapai College for the second time this season, 69-32. They dropped their first game of the season to No. 3 Eastern Arizona College 65-55.
The Badgers opened with a 10-6 lead at the halfway mark of the quarter and would maintain the distance by the end of the first quarter for a 14-10 lead. Snow College would use the second period to grow its lead as big as 12 points by the half, 33-21.
The Rustlers came into the second half with renewed vigor as they went on a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to two. The Badgers would respond with their own 15-2 run to close out the quarter up 50-35.
CWC would open the final quarter of the game on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to nine points. The Badgers would build up their lead back to 15 and maintain the advantage for the rest of the fourth period, defeating CWC, 69-54.
Snow College had 46 points off the bench, with
Dalana Jakovljevic leading the way offensively to record her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Hillary Akomatsri was the Badgers' second leading scorer with 15 points.
The Badgers and Lancers were tied up early in the first five minutes of the game at eight points apiece, but the Badgers were able to spark a 10-0 run to close the first quarter. They kept their foot on the gas and outscored EWC 26-10 in the second period to take a 44-18 lead at half.
The Lancers' offense woke up in the second half, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Badgers. The Badgers would score the final eight points of the match to close the game 81-47.
Lala Baldwin led Snow College in scoring with 25 points on 10-13 shooting from the field and 5-7 from three. Two other Badgers scored double-digit points, as
Avery Allred chipped in 18, and Akomatsri with 12.
The Badgers will head to Midland, Texas, for the Midland College Classic. They will open the classic against the host school, Midland College Thursday at 6:00 p.m. MST. The Badgers will turn their attention to their other two opponents for the weekend, No. 12 South Plains College Friday at 3:00 p.m. MST and Odessa College Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MST.
