Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak Against Eagles

The Snow College women's basketball team downed Utah State University Eastern last Thursday 45-32. The victory pushed the Badgers' to 16-9 overall with a 5-5 record in conference play.

The Badgers were coming off a 68-57 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College. These wins are a part of a four-game win streak that has catapulted Snow College into fourth place within the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.

The first quarter started out slow as the game was knotted at six with four minutes left to play in the period. The Badgers then strung together a 9-0 run throughout the next three minutes to go 15-6 and ultimately led 15-9 at the end of the quarter.

The second period then stalled offensively for both teams after the Badgers outscored the Eagles 8-2 in the quarter. Despite the low scoring quarter, the Badgers grabbed 14 of the 18 Eagle misses to limit them to just two points in the entire quarter.

Snow College led 23-11 entering halftime. 11 points is the second lowest number of points the Badgers have allowed in the first half throughout this season.

The Badgers maintained a double-digit lead for the entire third quarter after forcing the Eagles to go 3-11 from the field. Both teams netted 11 points in the third, and the Badgers entered the fourth with a 34-22 lead.

Madison Hosino (So./Layton, Utah/Northridge HS) started the fourth quarter with a 6-0 burst to help the Badgers go up 40-22. This 18-point lead would be the largest of the game for Snow College.

The Eagles then had a 4-1 burst of their own before three scoreless minutes for both teams. Snow College then took six of the last 10 points of the game to win 45-32.

Sydnee Smith (Fr./Grace, Idaho/Grace HS) led all scorers with 11 points along with setting a career high of four steals in the match. Maliyah Elliott (So./Auburn, Washington/Auburn Mtn. View HS) tied a season high of seven rebounds. Snow College dominated the rebounds once again, out rebounding USUE 46-32.

The Badgers will wrap up their road schedule against CNCC Thursday Feb. 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Rangely, Colorado. Snow College will then travel to No. 23 Salt Lake Community College Saturday Feb. 22. Saturday's match will tip off at 1:00 p.m. in Taylorsville, Utah.
