OPENING KICKOFF: The Snow College women's soccer team Continues Scenic West Athletic Conference play this week with a record of 3-1-0. They host Colorado Northwestern Community College Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and No. 3 Salt Lake Community College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. both matches will be at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.
The Badgers enter the matches ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Rankings, and are riding momentum from Saturday's match against Utah State University Eastern which resulted in a 1-0 win.Â
Freshman forward Kelsie Peterson scored a late goal in the 78th minute, while Sophomore Goalkeeper Daisy Williams made some crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet. Peterson was named SWAC player of the week while Williams was named SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
KNOW YOUR FOE: The Badgers host the Spartans Thursday. CNCC currently holds a 2-2-0 record. Last season, the Spartans finished 9-6-4 overall and 5-5-4 in SWAC play. The last time these teams met was in 2024.Â
The first match, played in September, resulted in a 4-1 win for the Badgers. They met again in October, with Snow College securing another victory, 3-2. The Badgers currently hold a 17-game winning streak against CNCC and an all-time record of 17-0-0.
Saturday, the Spartans suffered a 4-0 loss to SLCC. The Bruins generated 11 shots on goal, while CNCC managed six but couldn't find the back of the net. In their other matches this season, the Spartans fell to Mohave Community College, 3-1, while earning wins over the College of Southern Nevada, 4-2, and Trinidad State Junior College, 12-0.
CNCC's season high for shots on goal came against TSJC, with 33 shots on target and 12 goals scored. They have allowed seven goals so far this season. The Badgers season high for shots on goal came against USC Lancaster, with 12 shots on target and three goals scored. They have allowed three goals this season.
The Badgers host the Bruins Saturday. Overall Snow College holds an all-time record of 11-12-6 against SLCC. Their home record stands at 7-1-4. Last year the teams met three times. In September, the Badgers lost 2-0 in Taylorsville. They bounced back in October with a 1-0 home win, but dropped the final match in November, again in Taylorsville, 3-1.
The Bruins are 3-0-1 on the season after defeating Central Wyoming College, Eastern Arizona College, CNCC, and drawing against Laramie County Community College. Before Saturday's matchup between the Badgers and Bruins, SLCC takes on USUE Thursday. SLCC concluded last season with an 18-3-1 overall record and 12-2-0 record in SWAC play.
This season, SLCC has recorded 16 goals from 51 total shots, including 32 on target, while allowing just one goal. The Bruins most challenging match came in a 1-1 draw against Laramie County Community College, where they were limited to only four shots on goal compared to LCCC's five. SLCC was behind for 61 minutes before equalizing in the 73rd minute to secure the draw.Â
SWAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Goalkeeper Daisy Williams and forward Kelsie Peterson have been named Scenic West Athletic Conference Players of the Week following their notable performances in Snow College's conference opener Saturday, which resulted in a shutout victory.
Williams played a pivotal role in keeping the Badgers level in the first half, making a crucial save in the 29th minute. She continued her strong performance with additional key saves in the 71st and 90th minutes to preserve the clean sheet.
Earlier in the season Williams recorded a season-high nine saves against Arizona Western College. In the most recent match against Utah State University Eastern she faced four shots on goal and saved all four. So far this season she has started and played the full 90 minutes in all four games. Williams has totaled 19 saves while allowing just three goals. Over the course of the 2024 season she appeared in three games, did not allow a single goal, and recorded one save.Â
On the attacking end, Petersen made her mark in just her second appearance of the season. The freshman scored her first-ever goal for Snow College in the 78th minute, netting the game winner with a left-footed finish. She capitalized on a deflected shot that disrupted the Eagles defensive shape and opened up space in the box.Â
Petersen showed her intent early, taking a shot in the opening minute of the match. After being subbed off and later re-entering the game, she quickly made her presence felt again with another attempt on goal in the 42nd minute.
LAST TIME OUT: The No. 10 Snow College women's soccer team opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play Saturday with a 1-0 win against Utah State University Eastern. The match was held at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.
Kelsie Peterson scored her first goal of the season in the 78th minute. The goal came off a deflection by USUE goalkeeper, following a shot from
Caliyah Wagner. Peterson reacted quickly, controlled the ball, and slotted it into the net to secure the victory for the Badgers.
The first half was fairly even between the two teams. USUE recorded three shots in the first half, while Snow College had 12. Overall, USUE finished with eight shots with four on target, while Snow totaled 21 shots with five on target.
Daisy Williams delivered some impressive saves, including a critical stop in the 29th minute that helped keep the score level at halftime. Aside from Williams' performance in goal, Brianna Kalista also stood out defensively at the center back position. She consistently relieved pressure, won 1-on-1 battles, and cleared the ball from dangerous areas.
The Badgers gained momentum and increased their tempo in the second half, which led to more attacking opportunities and ultimately Peterson's game-winning goal. Snow College capitalized on USUE's mistakes and held strong defensively to secure the win.
