LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College football team suffered a 26-12 loss to No. 8 Tyler Junior College in Thursday's home opener in Ephraim. The Badgers now drop to 2-1 overall to begin the season.

Snow College entered the game following a convincing 37-6 victory against Highland Community College in Kansas the prior weekend. The team gained 402 yards of total offense to earn the win in the first-ever meeting with the Scotties.

Both teams exchanged punts to start the game. On their second possession, the Badgers turned the ball over on downs deep into the Apaches' territory. Tyler took advantage of the turnover and moved the ball down the field to score the game's first touchdown. It was a 13-play, 86-yard drive consuming nearly six minutes of clock to take a 7-0 lead.

The Badgers' next two possessions resulted in punts despite intercepting Tyler's quarterback. Snow College got the ball back midway through the second quarter. The first three plays went for negative yards, and the Badgers were forced to punt. The long snap sailed high and into the end zone. The Badgers were able to recover, but the play resulted in a safety to give the Apaches a 9-0 lead.

The Badgers forced another turnover but couldn't capitalize and were forced to punt. The Badgers' penultimate possession of the half put them in field-goal range. The 47-yard attempt was blocked and returned by the Apaches all the way to the Badgers' 11-yard line. Tyler scored four plays later and took a 16-0 lead into halftime.

The Badgers had four total possessions in the third quarter, two of which resulted in punts, while the other two resulted in turnovers. Tyler took advantage of both turnovers – the first a Snow College fumble at their own 9-yard line – and scored to take a 23-0 lead. Then they scored a field goal to begin the fourth quarter following another Snow College turnover.

Snow College's offense was able to put together two 80-plus yard drives in the fourth quarter to score two touchdowns, but it was too little, too late, and the Badgers suffered the 26-12 defeat.

The Badgers gained 257 yards of total offense and were outgained by more than 50 yards. This is the fewest yards of total offense since Dec. 3, 2023, against Iowa Central Community College in the Game One Bowl, when the Badgers managed just 138 yards of offense.

Seth Rigtrup toted the ball 20 times for a total of 105 yards and a touchdown. Jack Thow and Jace Welsch combined to go 14-32 for 147 total yards. Kael McCoy caught four passes for 45 yards.

Snow College will not turn its attention to Army where it will take on the junior varsity squad in West Point, New York Monday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. MDT inside Michie Stadium. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.

ON THE SIDELINE: Zac Erekson returns for his sixth season at the helm for the Badgers. He is 41-10 all time as head coach for the team and has won nine games in each of the previous two seasons.

The Badgers have been ranked inside the top 15 every week during his five seasons and have won 10 games against ranked opponents under Erekson. Additionally, Erekson has not lost a game to an unranked opponent over his first five seasons, going a perfect 30-0 in such matchups.

Snow College went 5-1 in home games last year while sporting a 4-1 road record. Erekson is 23-3 all time within the friendly confines of Terry Foote Stadium. His teams have also amassed an impressive 18-4 mark in road games since 2020.

Three coaches from the 2024 staff will return to the program for the 2025 season, including Trever McFalls (Southern Utah University), who will serve as the offensive coordinator and the offensive line coach in his fourth season with the program. Michael O'Neal (Norwich University) will serve as the defensive backs coach/special teams coordinator and JV head coach in his second season. Matt Beecher (Brigham Young University), also in his second season with the team, will serve as the running backs coach.

Erekson will welcome four new coaches to the staff, including Mark Wilson (Abilene Christian University), who will take over the defensive coordinator responsibilities. Michael Dixon (Doane University) will serve as the wide receivers coach, while Colby Hyder (Southern Virginia University) will coach the linebackers, and Stevie Tu'ikolovatu (University of Southern California) will serve as the defensive line coach.

UP NEXT: Snow College will return home for a matchup against No. 13 Lackawanna College to begin a stretch of three home games in five weeks.

The Falcons are 1-0 to start the season after defeating Sussex County Community College last weekend in Scranton, Pennsylvania. They went 7-3 during the 2024 campaign, including a 43-40 defeat at the hands of Snow College. The Badgers are 4-1 all time against the Falcons and have won two of three home games historically. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside Terry Foote Stadium. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
