Badgers Lose Both in Idaho Road Trip

The Snow College women's basketball team wrapped up its road trip to Idaho as it fell to both No. 9 College of Southern Idaho 72-49 and North Idaho College 63-45. The Badgers drop to 13-7 overall and 1-4 in conference after the first round of play.

The Badgers are coming off a weekend where they dropped both of their games to in-state rivals No. 20 Salt Lake Community College, 73-58, and Utah State University Eastern, 64-58.

The game against No. 9 CSI tipped off as both teams traded early buckets for a 4-4 score three minutes in. CSI then sparked a 9-0 run before Megan Johnson hit a pair of layups to stop the bleeding for the Badgers. Both teams settled into a steady rhythm to close the first quarter with CSI up 17-12.

The Badgers would start the second period on an 8-4 run, capped by a Seini Tuipulotu 3-pointer to trim the Golden Eagles' lead to one point. CSI responded with a 15-3 run over the remainder of the half to head into the break up 36-23.

The second half opened as a frenzy of points was scored. Lala Baldwin connected beyond the arc to cut the lead back to single digits. Both sides would fall into a steady pace for the rest of the third quarter as the Badgers entered the final stanza down 48-38.

The fourth period saw CSI take control as it opened with an 11-4 burst within the first five minutes. The Golden Eagles continued to add onto their lead to outscore the Badgers 24-11 in the quarter and earned the win, 72-49.

Johnson led the way in scoring and rebounding for the Badgers with 10 and seven, respectively.  Avery Allred chipped in seven points and five rebounds of her own.

After the loss, Snow College traveled north to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to take on NIC.

The match started with both teams scoring early points, as Hillary Akomatsri and Sara Aoki hit back-to-back jumpers for the Badgers. The Cardinals strung together an 8-5 run to close the first period up 13-9.

The second quarter saw the Badgers spark a 6-2 run to open, marked by a pair of Allred jumpers to tie the game at 15 apiece. NIC would respond with an 8-2 run to stretch their lead back to six points. Snow College would score five of the next seven to head into the half down 25-22.

The second half opened with Baldwin connecting on a jumper to bring the score within one, but NIC would go on a 13-0 burst to expand its lead to the largest it had been all game. The Badgers would tack on six of the final 10 points to close the third quarter to enter the final stanza down 45-30.

The Badgers scored nine of their 15 points of the quarter in the first five minutes of the fourth period to bring the score to 51-39. NIC would put any hope of a Badger comeback to rest with a 12-6 run to close out the game 63-45.

Allred led the Badgers in scoring with 11 points, while Hartlynn Richins and Baldwin cashed in seven points apiece. Johnson recorded eight rebounds to lead the way for the Badgers, and Dalana Jakovljevic followed suit with five rebounds.

Snow College will finish off its three-game road stretch as it heads to in-state rival USUE Thursday at 5:00 p.m. for the second of three meetings. The Badgers fell last time the two teams faced off, 64-58. They hold a 12-7 record in Price and won their previous meeting there last year, 45-32.
