OPENING KICK: The Snow College men's soccer team will travel to Rangely, Colorado Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to play Colorado Northwestern Community College to kick off Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Badgers are coming off a 0-1-1 weekend, where they traveled to Ottumwa, Iowa to play in the IHCC Classic. The Badgers tied Indian Hills Community College 2-2, then lost to Mohave Community College 4-0.
KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: CNCC and Snow College have faced each other 25 times with the Badgers winning all 25 matchups. CNCC is 1-2 this season with losses from Gillette Community College 2-1, and Central Wyoming College 4-1. CNCC's lone win this season came last Thursday against College of Southern Nevada, 1-0.
Last year, CNCC went 2-13-2 with both their wins coming against Pacific Northwest Christian College in SWAC play. CNCC finished seventh in the SWAC standings last season.
LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College men's soccer team traveled to Ottumwa, Iowa to play in the IHCC Classic last weekend. The Badgers began the two-day event suffering a 2-2 draw against Indian Hills Community College. They suffered a 4-0 loss to Mohave Community College to wrap up the tournament
The first game for the Badgers in the IHCC Classic came against No.1 ranked Indian Hills Community College. This was the first meeting in school history against the defending national champions.
The game started with Snow College striking first in the seventh minute as Michael Martinez found JJ Cubillas for the first goal of the game and his third goal for the season. Putting the Badgers in the lead, 1-0.
Shortly after, the Warriors leveled the game at one in the 15th minute. The Warriors scored again in the 24th minute, putting them in the lead, 2-1.
In the 30th minute, Dylan Meek scored his second goal of the season and tied the game with a pass from Jorge Beltan, leveling the game 2-2. The first half ended with the Badgers having eight shots, and the Warriors with 12.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second half, ending the match 2-2. The Badgers were assessed a red card in the 64th and were forced to play down a man the last 26 minutes of the match. The Badgers ended the game with 10 shots compared to 15 for the Warriors. s.Both teams had 5 shots on goal.
Snow College's second game of the IHCC Classic came against No. 4, MCC. The game started being all Bighorns In the 16th minute the Bighorns struck first taking the lead,1-0.
One minute later Mohave found the back of the net again, doubling the lead.. The Bighorns would take a 3-0 lead into halftime after recording a goal in the 35th minute.
At half time the Bighorns led the Badgers in shots, 6-5. The second half was much more even with the lone goal coming in the 64th minute, and the Badgers suffered the 4-0 loss
The Badgers ended the game outshooting the Bighorns, 14-13, but had just four shots on goal compared to seven for MCC.,
NEXT UP: The Badgers will play their first home conference games next week, playing in-state rivals Salt Lake Community College Thursday, September 10, at 3:30 p.m., and Utah State University Eastern Saturday, September 12, at 3:30 p.m..
SLCC is currently 3-0 after defeating Arizona Western College 3-0, Casper College 5-0, and Northwest College 4-0. SLCC will play USUE Saturday.
USUE is currently 2-1-1 and is coming off of a 1-1 draw to Casper, and 3-2 loss against Western Nebraska Community College. The Badgers are 8-20-3 against SLCC, and 17-8-0 against USUE. For video streaming and live stats information, visit snowbadgers.com.
