Box Score 2 EPHRAIM — With their highest national ranking ever in hand, the Snow College volleyball team travelled to Idaho last week where they lost their momentum and dropped a pair of matches to Southern Idaho (CSI) and North Idaho College (NIC). The Badgers lost 3-0 in Twin Falls to CSI on Thursday and were unable to rebound on Saturday afternoon, losing to NIC in Coeur d'Alene 3-1.
Earlier in the week the Badgers had been voted the No. 7 team in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, their highest ranking ever in the national poll. They had moved up a spot from the previous week by virtue of a 3-2 win over Salt Lake Community College the week before which dropped Salt Lake from No. 5 to No. 10. Positions in the polls are sure to reverse again this week as Salt Lake was also in Idaho last week, downing NIC 3-2 on Thursday and dumping third-ranked CSI, 3-1, on Saturday.Â
Snow started out strong on Thursday at CSI, tied at 15 in the opening set. But then CSI reeled off four straight points and held on to down the Badgers 21-14 in the first set. Snow could never get their momentum back, losing the second set 25-13 and dropping the finale 25-19.
Brooke Lamb led Snow with 13 kills while
Delayne Daniel added eight. The normally reliable Daniel, who led the nation at 4.60 kills per set heading into the match at CSI, had 14 errors in the match in her 49 attacks for a negative hitting percentage. CSI's Natasa Savovic led all hitters with a dozen kills. CSI had 27 blocks as a team to only four for Snow.
Snow played better on Saturday, but lost at North Idaho, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21. Lamb again led the Badgers with 19 kills, with Daniel adding 12. Lamb's 19 kills was her best showing of the season.
Cali Tovey had 23 digs in the match for Snow. Dzeni Hadzisehovic of NIC tied Lamb for match-high kills with 19 and her teammate Brittany Aldridge added 13 kills.
The Badgers will try to get back on track this weekend as they host USU-Eastern on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be in the Horne Activity Center on the campus of Snow College and will conclude the Badgers' regular season.Â
