Box Score EPHRAIM — The Snow College Lady Badgers finished their season on Friday with a loss to the Salt Lake Community College Bruins (SLCC) in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls. The Badgers defeated Colorado Northwestern earlier that morning (23-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-7), but lost to the eventual tournament runner-up Bruins in the afternoon (26-24, 25-18, 25-23).
After struggling to get in the groove in the opening set of the tournament, in which the Badgers had a team hitting percentage of only .140, they got things sorted out and by the fourth set Snow ran away from CNCC 25-7 on the strength of a .591 team hitting percentage. Â
Freshman outside hitter
Brooke Lamb had a monster match against Colorado Northwestern (CNCC) with a personal season high 20 kills with only five errors. Lamb really came on for the Badgers down the stretch recording double-digit kills in each of Snow's last 10 matches, including her 20 kills against CNCC and 10 kills in the team's final match against SLCC.
Sophomore outside hitter
Delayne Daniel, who was named to the All Scenic West First Team, had 15 kills against CNCC, also with only five errors, but was held to nine kills against SLCC. Daniel, who at times led the nation this season, finished the year with an average of 4.43 kills per set, still good enough to rank her fourth nationally in that offensive category.
Savannah Whitworth added nine kills against CNCC and libero
Cali Tovey had 25 digs defensively.
Samantha Lewis added 16 digs for Snow. As she has all season, sophomore
Magen Hunter set up the Badgers' attack with 41 assists. Hunter was named to the All Scenic West Second Team. Freshman Sierra Green led the Badgers with eight blocks. Johanna Purdy led CNCC with 15 kills.
In the afternoon match against SLCC, the Bruins overpowered Snow with three Bruins, led by Carol Grasso's 17 kills, each having more kills than Snow's best in the match. Lamb led Snow with 10 kills with Daniel and Green adding nine each. Daniel led the Badgers with 10 digs and Tovey added nine.Â
Snow ends its season with a record of 20-7 and was ranked tenth nationally going into the league tournament. Southern Idaho, which won the SWAC regular season along with last week's league tournament, and SLCC, which finished second in both, will move on to the NJCAA national tournament starting Feb. 20 in Casper, Wyo.
