Snow Badgers fall at Salt Lake, 90-83

Box Score
EPHRAIM — The Snow College Badgers fell to Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), 90-83, in men's basketball action in the Scenic West Athletic Conference on Thursday. Snow led by three at the break, 47-44, but poor shooting in the second half doomed the Badgers sending them to their first conference loss of the season. Snow is now 2-1 in league play and 11-4 overall while fourth-ranked SLCC remains undefeated at 3-0 and 13-0.

The Badgers shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half (15 of 29) including six of nine from 3-point range and led by as many as eight points. The wheels came off the second half, however, when the Badgers could manage only nine of 32 (28 percent) with only two of their 12 treys finding the mark. SLCC was consistent on the night, shooting 47 percent from the field in the first half and 49 percent in the second. Snow finished at 39 percent from the field to 48 percent for SLCC. The Bruins recorded 21 assists on the night while the Badgers managed only eight.

Sophomore guard Walter Wright had another good outing for Snow scoring 38 points and dishing out four assists. But after scoring 22 points in the first half, Wright was one for seven from the field in the second. He was deadly at the free throw line though; canning 14 of 15 second half free throw attempts to finish 18 of 22 from the line for the night. Wright's 38 points ups his season scoring average to 24.5 points per game, putting him in the number four position nationally.

Romain Louiserre scored 12 points for Snow while Aziz Leeks added 11 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds including four on the offensive end. DeSean Parsons led SLCC with 22 points and matched three other Bruins (CJ Spjute, Zerrion Payton and Larry Okhomina) with seven rebounds.

SLCC takes its unblemished record to tournaments in Arizona and Oregon over Christmas break before resuming league action on Jan. 8 when they host North Idaho. Two days later the Bruins will host Southern Idaho, currently 14-0 and ranked third nationally.

Snow will also head south after Christmas to play in the Maricopa County Holiday Classic at Phoenix College. They will face South Mountain on Monday, Dec. 29, followed by No. 22-ranked Cochise College, which averages 101 points per game, the next night and host Phoenix on Wednesday. The Badgers also resume league action on Thursday, Jan. 8, as they welcome Southern Idaho.
