Snow men win big over USU-Eastern and Colorado Northwestern

EPHRAIM – The Snow College men's basketball team never trailed in a pair of blowout wins over the USU-Eastern Golden Eagles, 85-57, on Thursday and Colorado Northwestern (CNCC), 113-79, on Saturday. For the Badgers, it was their third win during a five-game home stand, with one more game at home Saturday when they host 21st ranked Salt Lake Community College with a 5:00 p.m. scheduled tipoff.

On Thursday the Badgers sprinted to a 9-0 lead out of the gate and never trailed in the game. Snow shot 47 percent (15 for 32) from the floor in the first half to take a 40-29 lead into the break, and finished the game at 45 percent (27 for 60) while USU-Eastern finished at 32 percent (20 for 63). It was the Badgers' best game of the season for controlling the ball as they committed only six turnovers all night. 

Walter Wright led four Badgers who scored in double digits, scoring 25 while going nine for 14 from the floor. Gentrey Thomas scored 18, including four for seven shooting from 3-point range, Romain Louiserre scored 12 and Marcus Bryce add 10 points. Bryce added a game-high 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Juwan Moody came off the bench to lead USU-Eastern with 14 points. 

Saturday was even more of the same as the Badgers opened the game on a 21-10 run and went into the locker room with a 54-36 lead at the half. Snow finished the game shooting 56 percent from the floor (38 for 68) and 65 percent (15 for 23) from 3-point range – season highs for the Badgers in both percentage and number of three's made. Again the Badgers protected the ball well, committing only seven turnovers while recording 19 assists to only nine assists for the Eagles. 

On this night, Wright led six Badgers in double scoring, finishing with 21 himself while handing out nine assists. Sophomore guard Le'Jon Johnson was deadly from outside, connecting on all six of his 3-point shots for a season-high 18 points. Thomas scored 16 and grabbed eight rebounds, JR Tailey and Louiserre each scored 13 and Larenz Stalcup finished with a double-double scoring 12 and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Guard TerryLee Wedgeworth was a bright spot for the Eagles going five for eight from 3-point range and finishing with a team-high 20 points.

The Badgers are now 16-6 overall and 5-2 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC). They will next host the Salt Lake Community College Bruins on Saturday (18-3 overall, 6-1 in the SWAC) with a chance to tie the Bruins for second place in the league standings. Undefeated, and third ranked Southern Idaho, lead the SWAC with a record of 6-0 and 20-0 overall.
