Box Score EPHRAIM – A woeful first half put the Snow College Badgers in a hole they could not climb out of as they lost at Salt Lake Community College, 83-73, on Saturday night. The Badgers shot only six for 27 from the floor in the first period (22 percent) giving Salt Lake (SLCC) a 43-23 lead at the break. Snow made up half the deficit in the second half, outscoring the Bruins 50-40 in the period, but it was not enough as SLCC stayed a game behind Southern Idaho for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title at 11-2, and Snow fell to 6-7 and fourth place in the SWAC.
Snow never led in the game and SLCC closed out the first half on an 11-0 run to take a 20-point lead into the locker room. The Badgers pulled themselves back into the game and got to within four at 64-60 with just under six minutes left, but could never get closer the rest of the way as the Bruins scored eight of their last 12 points from the line to hold off the Badgers.
Walter Wright paced Snow with 16 points and five assists, but was more than seven points below his season average of 23.3 points per game.
Gentrey Thomas with 16 points and
Larenz Stalcup with 10 were also in double figures for the Badgers.
Aziz Leeks led Snow with eight rebounds.
Marcus Bryce added nine points and
Romain Louiserre had eight for Snow. Brandon Morley had game-highs with 17 points and nine rebounds for SLCC.
This week SLCC will host sixth-ranked Southern Idaho (12-1 in league and 25-1 overall) on Thursday in a matchup of the top two SWAC teams while Snow will be hosting North Idaho (8-5, 20-6) in a matchup of the third and fourth place teams. Southern Idaho will play at Snow on Saturday while North Idaho plays at SLCC to close out the regular season.
