Softball opens league schedule 1-3 at SLCC over the weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 TAYLORSVILLE – The Snow College Lady Badger softball team opened play in the Scenic West Athletic Conference on Friday and Saturday winning one and losing three at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). The Badgers won the opening game in a comeback, 8-6, but lost Friday's second game, 7-4. The Bruins got their bats going on Saturday, taking 10-2 and 12-4 wins overs the Badgers.

SLCC led 6-0 entering the sixth inning of the series opener before the Badgers decided to get serious. Snow mounted a furious comeback with four runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to steal the win, 8-6. Snow, which had not gotten a runner on base through the first five innings, pounded out nine hits over the last two innings as SLCC stayed with their starter in the circle through the whole Badger onslaught.

Sophomore Kenzie Rasmussen singled to left to drive in two runs in the sixth and then smacked a three-run homer in the seventh to put Snow ahead, finishing with five RBI while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Mariah Peterson had a pair of hits including a double and Emily Street finished with a pair of hits and scored twice. Cassidy Anderson drove in Snow's first two runs in the sixth with a single to right center. Belle Stoddard came on in relief of Riley Cox in the fifth inning for Snow and was credited with the win.

In Friday's second game, Snow scored twice in the first inning on consecutive singles by Kayla Larson, Rasmussen, Karlee Manzione and Renee Fagg. But SLCC struck right back with a pair of runs of its own in the bottom of the first, and then added a single run in the second and three in the third.
Anderson finished the second game 3-for-4 at the plate including a double, and Fagg finished 2-for-3. Stoddard pitched the first five innings for the Badgers and was given the loss.

SLCC scored three in the second inning and four in the fourth to put Saturday's opener out of reach early. Snow scored twice in the fifth, but could manage only five hits in the game. Cox took the loss for the Badgers.

In Saturday's second game, SLCC took a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning before Snow again got going. Badger third baseman BritLee Anderson homered to left to bring Snow to within a run at 4-3, but it was short lived as SLCC scored six in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Snow plays Friday-Saturday doubleheaders at home the next two weekends. This weekend they host the College of Southern Nevada starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday. On March 13 and 14 they will host the College of Southern Idaho.
