Box Score 4 EPHRAIM -- For the third time in four weeks, the Snow College Lady Badgers could manage only one win in a four-game series last weekend in Carson City, Nev. The Badgers took Friday's series opener against the Western Nevada College Wildcats (WNC) by a score of 7-1, but lost Friday's second game, 7-4, and then lost both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, 7-0 and 5-4.
Leading 2-1, the Badgers scored five more times in the top of the fifth inning to take the series opener. Catcher
Brooke Davis singled in two runs in the Badgers' big inning. She also drove in the first run of the game in the second inning with a sacrifice fly.Â
BritLee Anderson,
Shaylee Larsen and Elaine Street also had RBI's in the Badgers' five-run fifth. They each had two hits in the winning effort as did shortstop
Cassidy Anderson.
Freshman hurler
Riley Cox notched the win for the Badgers, spreading four singles and walking only one as she pitched the complete game. WNC's only run off Cox came on a groundout in the second inning.
Snow fell behind 6-2 after three innings in the second game as the Wildcat bats got going with four extra base hits including a homer by third baseman Briauna Carter. WNC's leadoff hitter Makaylee Jaussi had three hits in the game including a triple.
Still the Badgers outhit the Wildcats, registering 12 hits to the Wildcats' 10, but eight runners left on base spelled doom for the Badgers.
Renee Fagg doubled for Snow and
Kenzie Rasmussen banged a solo homer in the fifth. Rasmussen, Larsen,
Emily Adams and
Mariah Peterson each had two hits for Snow. Freshman
Riley Cleverly came on in relief of Badger starter
Belle Stoddard in the fourth inning and shut down WNC the rest of the way on only one hit.Â
Badger bats missed their wake up call Saturday as they could manage only one hit as WNC took the day's opener 7-0. Cox took the loss in the circle for Snow. But the series finale became a back-and-forth nail biter as the Badgers scored once in the top of the first as
Kayla Larson doubled to drive in Adams, who had also doubled, with the game's first run. WNC took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on three singles.
In the top of the fifth Snow scored twice with two outs to take back the lead 3-2.
Cassidy Anderson started things off with a two-out single and promptly stole second. Adams drove her in with a single of her own and then scored on a double by
Karlee Manzione.
The lead was short lived as the Wildcats struck back in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs on a fielder's choice and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on two-out back-to-back doubles. That proved to be crucial as the Badgers scored once in the top of the seventh as Manzione drove in Adams with her second hit of the game, but Snow could not push across another run and WNC got the 5-4 win. Adams finished with three hits in the game and scored three times while Cleverly went the distance in the circle for the Badgers.
Adams went five-for-nine at the plate in the series to raise her batting average on the season to .409. Manzione, who leads the Badgers with a .435 batting average, went six-for-14, and
Shaylee Larsen went five-for-11.Â
The Badgers are back on the road this week as they travel to Rangely to take on Colorado Northwestern in doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
