Box Score 4 EPHRAIM – For the fourth time in seven weeks, the Snow Lady Badgers were able to win only once in a four-game softball series, this time winning Saturday afternoon's first game at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in Henderson. The Coyotes of CSN won a pair of one-run games on Friday, 5-4 and 2-1, before the Badgers won Saturday's opener, 6-4, and the Coyotes stormed back to win the finale, 14-4.
The Badgers outhit their hosts in Friday's opener, 10 hits to seven, but could not bunch them together as all four runs were scored on a pair of long balls in the last two innings. CSN built a 5-0 lead going into the sixth inning when Snow finally got on the scoreboard on a three-run homer by freshman catcher
Brooke Davis. The Badgers pulled to within one in the top of the seventh when freshman outfielder
Emily Adams stroked a solo homerun, but could not score again as the Coyotes held on for the 5-4 win.
Adams finished three-for-four at the plate for Snow with a double to go along with her homerun. Davis,
BritLee Anderson and
Cassidy Anderson each had a pair of hits for the Badgers. Megan Mello got the win in the circle for CSN, with Snow's
Riley Cox taking the loss and
Riley Cleverly coming in for the Badgers to hurl two perfect innings in relief.
Friday' second game was a pitching duel with Snow's
Belle Stoddard yielding two runs in the first inning, but shutting down the Coyotes the rest of the way. Stoddard yielded a triple to Coyote leadoff hitter Maggie Manwarren, but then only allowed four singles the rest of the way while not giving up any walks and striking out three.
CSN's Kristina Nelson gave up only one run, however, as the Coyotes took the game, 2-1.
Cassidy Anderson and Adams led the Badger attack, each with a pair of singles as the Badgers finished with seven hits.
The Badgers pounded out 12 hits as they won Saturday's opener, 6-4. Sophomore
Karlee Manzione opened the scoring for Snow with a solo homer in the second inning. Adams drove in a run in the third on a sacrifice fly and Manzione followed with a single to drive in another Badger run.
Kayla Larson drove in two more runs for Snow with a double in the fourth, and
Emily Street brought across the Badgers' final run in the sixth with her third single of the game.
Street and Manzione each finished with three hits and Larson and
Mariah Peterson each finished with a pair. Cox got the win in the circle for the Badgers.
CSN broke loose in Saturday's final game, scoring 12 runs while pounding out 16 hits. Mia Acuna led the Coyote assault with a double and a pair of singles. Manzione had her second homer of the series, a two-run shot to center in the fifth to go along with a run-scoring single she had in the first inning.
Cassidy Anderson and Larson also had a pair of hits each for Snow.
Snow is now 8-20 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference while CSN improves to 19-9. This week doesn't get any easier for Snow as the Badgers travel to Twin Falls to take on the third-ranked Golden Eagles of Southern Idaho (23-4).
