Box Score EPHRAIM, Utah (September 22, 2018) -- It took four sets, but the fourth-ranked Snow College women's volleyball team picked up a victory over Southern Nevada in the league-opener for both teams. The Badgers defeated the Coyotes, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22. With the win, Snow improves to 18-1 on the season and 1-0 in Scenic West action.
"It wasn't the cleanest game we've played so far this season," Snow College head coach Jeff Reynolds said. "But I think it says a lot about our team that we can have an off match like this and still come out on top. This was a nice win against a tough Southern Nevada team. We're proud of the way we hung in there and battled it out to the end, especially in that fourth game when we found ourselves down by five and had to come back to win."
In the fourth set, with CSN looking to force a fifth game, the Badgers found themselves trailing, 15-20. Sparked by a Stacey Hone kill, the Badgers went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 18-20. A CSN kill stopped the Snow run, but the Badgers came right back on back-to-back kills from Sai Collins to cut the Coyotes' lead to 21-20. Snow then forced three straight CSN errors to take a 23-21 advantage. Collins came up with another big kill to give Snow a 24-21 lead before a service error gave the serve back to CSN. On the ensuing play, the Badgers completed the 10-2 run and come-from-behind victory on an Ashlen Bell kill.
Collins and Autumn Spafford led the Badgers with 11 kills each. Collins hit .259 on the afternoon, while Spafford hig a solid. 412 agasint the Coyotes. Hone and Bell each had 10 kills. Setter Taela Laufiso was credited with a team leading 23 assists and Savannah Tanner had 15 digs. Madi Day also had 13 digs in the winning effort.
Snow College will now prepare to travel to No. 5 Salt Lake CC on Friday, followed by another tough road test against No. 3 Southern Idaho on Saturday.
