Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, Utah (March 2, 2019) -- The Snow College softball team opened its 2019 Scenic West campaign with three wins over the Utah State Eastern Eagles by scores of 11-6, 6-3 and 5-2. The games were scheduled to be played in Price, but were moved to Desert Hills High School in St. George in search of better field conditions. The Badgers won all three games played on Friday, and Saturday's scheduled finale was rained out.
Snow took the conference opener on Friday by a score of 11-6. Freshman pitcher
Cayla Giles went the distance for Snow, giving up eight hits, but struggled finding the plate as she walked nine.
Madi Rouska and
Alyvia Woolsey led the Snow attack, each homering and going 3-for-4 at the plate, and Woolsey adding a double. Catcher
Avery Reynolds went 2-for-3 for the Badgers and drove in three runs.
Friday's second game saw the Eagles build a 3-0 lead through three innings before the Badger bats woke up to tie the score at three in the top of the fourth and then adding single runs in each of the three remaining innings to claim a 6-3 win. Woolsey again led the Badgers at the plate with her second homer of the day driving her team's three runs in the fourth to tie the score.
Freshmen
Kloie Park and
Blake Hervat added solo homeruns as the Badgers then slowly pulled away from the Eagles. Freshman hurler
Alexis Poulsen pitched the complete game to earn the win for Snow. Poulsen gave up eight hits while walking two and striking out three. Sophomore
Brooke Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate for the second game in a row, adding a double.
The coaches decided to move the series' third game forward to Friday in anticipation of poor weather forecast for Saturday. The lead seesawed with the Badgers taking a slim 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on a solo homerun by leadoff hitter
Abigail Barnes followed by Brown slapping a double to score
Mia Fernandes who had singled. The Badgers clung the one-run lead until Brown broke things open with homer to centerfield to again score Fernandes and give Snow a 5-2 win.
Sophomore pitcher
Sadie Clark pitched a gem, taking the complete game win while scattering five hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Brown finished the series going 7-for-10 at the plate with a pair of doubles and the homer in her last plate appearance, while Woolsey pounded out five hits in nine at-bats including a double and two homeruns while driving in four runs.
The weatherman was right on Saturday with the series final game being rained out. The Badgers, now 8-6 overall and 3-0 in conference, are scheduled to play their home opener this weekend with doubleheaders scheduled for both Friday and Saturday in Ephraim against the College of Southern Nevada, weather permitting.
