Box Score 2 EPHRAIM, Utah (April 20, 2019) – The Snow College women's softball team earned a split in Saturday's softball doubleheader at Badger Field with an 8-6 win after the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles took the day's opener, 7-5. Combined with Friday's doubleheader sweep, the Badgers claimed three wins in the four-game series.
The teams were tied at three through the first five innings in Saturday's opener, but CSI pushed across a run in the sixth and add three more in the seventh to go up 7-3. The Badgers scored twice in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 7-5.
Abby Barnes, Brooke Brown, Avery Shields and Kadi Bateman all doubled for Snow, Bateman driving in three runs along the way. Alexis Poulsen took the loss for the Badgers, giving way to reliever Sadie Clark during the seventh.
In Saturday's second game, Snow took a slim 3-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth, but then busted loose for five runs highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of sophomore McKenna Rowell. Freshman Bailie Singleton stroked a pair of doubles, while Shields and Alyvia Woolsey each had a pair of hits for the Badgers.
Snow entered the seventh with a comfortable 8-2 lead, but as they had done the entire series, CSI mounted a seventh inning rally to make it interesting. CSI scored half of their 22 runs the series in the seventh inning. As if on cue, starter Cayla Giles ran out of gas as she gave up two homers and a walk to the first three CSI hitters to begin the inning. The homeruns by Mya Washington and Hannah Peterson brought in Clark again from the Badger bullpen with Snow's lead trimmed to 8-5. Nikki Zielinski greeted Clark with the Eagles' third homer of the inning to cut the lead to two, but the experienced Badger sophomore wasn't rattled as she then slammed the door shut with three quick outs to earn the save.
The series moved 15-12 Snow to within a game-and-a-half of 19-13 CSI for second place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings with two weeks left in the regular season. The Badgers are two-and-a-half games ahead of fourth place Southern Nevada. Snow's opponent next week, Salt Lake, has already claimed the regular season title with a record of 28-4.
