Box Score EPHRAIM, Utah (Aug. 27, 2019) -- The 11th-ranked Snow College women's volleyball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Arizona on Tuesday. The victory marked the sixth straight win over the Gila Monsters, dating back to the 2017 season.
"Eastern Arizona is really good volleyball team, " head coach Jeff Reynolds said. "It is a significant accomplishment for our team to beat EAC in three-straight sets. After playing them on Saturday, with one day of practice, it's a challenge to turn around and play the same team again. They have some nice players who caused us some problems, but I'm proud of our team for coming out and taking care of business. We played really well tonight as a team."
After jumping out to an early six-point lead, the Badgers cruised to a 25-13 victory in the opening set. The two teams battled it out in the second set, with Snow holding on for a 25-23 victory. The Badgers turned up the heat down the stretch and raced to a 25-16 win in the third and final set.
For the match, the Badgers combined for 40 kills on 112 attempts, posting a .232 hitting percentage. Snow held Eastern Arizona to just 28 kills on 109 swings with 23 errors to post a .046 hitting percentage.
Freshman
Korrin Thornock led the Badgers with 11 kills on 28 attempts, marking the second time in just five games she has had 10 or more kills in a match. Thornock hit an impressive .286 for the match. Fellow freshman
Lydia Montague was credited with seven kills on 15 swings, posting a .267 clip at the net. Sophomore
Bridget Triplett came off the bench to register five kills on seven swings with no hitting errors. Sophomore
Marcie Stapley contributed a team-high four blocks in the victory.
Entering the match, the Badgers led the nation in service aces. The team continued their streak of impressive serving with eight more aces, led by Montague and freshman Ellee Anderson. Both had two aces.
Snow will take to the road this week, playing five matches in three days. The Badgers will face No. 10 Glendale and Yavapai College on Thursday, followed by No. 20 Arizona Western and No. 13 New Mexico Military Academy on Friday, and No. 9 Laramie County on Saturday.
"We have a few challenging road trips this year," Reynolds said. "This weekend is one of those where we play five tough teams in three days. The only unranked team, Yavapai, is extremely good and will certainly be ranked in next week's poll after beating No. 1 ranked Southern Idaho last weekend. To say we have our work cut out for us this weekend would be an understatement."
