Badgers Begin Conference Play With Road Swing

HOME SWEET HOME: Coming off a 2-0 homesteads including wins over Northwest College (12-0) and No 13 Casper College (4-1), Snow College now turns its attention to No. 4 Salt Lake Community College and Truckee Meadows Community College as the Badgers begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Snow College has enjoyed playing in the friendly confines of Ephriam, Utah as the Badgers also won its first home game of the season against Western Wyoming Community College (3-0).  In fact, Saturday's win against Casper marked 16 straight home wins for the Badgers with their last loss coming back on October 5, 2019 in a 1-0 loss against the College of Southern Nevada.

The Badgers have also played well on the road, though, and bring an 11-game road winning streak into Thursday's matchup.  Snow College's last road loss came in a 2-1 defeat May 1, 2021 against the Bruins.  The Badgers will hope to avenge that loss as it takes on one of the top ranked teams in the country Thursday.

LAST TIME OUT:  Snow College earned its third victory of the season Saturday as the No. 7 Badgers took down the No. 13 Casper College Thunderbirds.

Snow College opened things up early with a quick goal in the 7th minute off a corner kick.  Mayu Yamamoto served it in from the corner.  The initial header was turned away, but Fiona Jensen was able to finish it off the rebound.

Yamamoto and Jensen would prove to be a good combination as they would again hook up in the 30th minute.  Yamamoto beat her defender to reach the end line just inside the 18-yard box.  She fed a pass into Jensen who slammed it home to give the Badgers the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Snow College allowed its first goal of the season after beginning the year on a 229-minute scoreless streak. It came in the 54th minute when Casper's Grace Conner was able to put one in the net.

The Badgers would get the point right back a few minutes later as Candela Gonzalez and Skye Kennedy executed a two-on-one that resulted in Kennedy taking the feed and had a wide open shot to extend Snow College's lead 3-1.

Jensen was able to complete the hat trick in the 74th minute as she put one past the keeper to give the Badgers a 4-1 lead. Snow College was able to salt away the remaining 16 minutes of action to earn its third win to start the season.

The Badgers were able to put up 24 shots throughout the match, 14 of which were on goal.  McKenna Conley was excellent in net for Snow College as she was able to turn away eight out of nine shots on goal to aid in the victory over the No. 13 ranked T-Birds.

HISTORY WITH SLCC:  The Badgers are 7-5-6 all time against the Bruins with their most recent win coming April 8, 2021.  Snow College defeated SLCC in a thrilling 1-0 double overtime win in Ephraim.

Snow College lost back to back matches against the Bruins — a 2-1 road loss on May 1, 2021 and another 1-0 loss a few weeks later in the second round of the Region 18 Tournament.

Since then, the matchup has tilted back in the Badgers favor with Snow College getting the edge on two occasions last season.  The Badgers defeated the Bruins 1-0 last September 2 in Ephraim followed by a 2-1 road victory September 30.

PERENIAL POWERHOUSES: Thurday's matchup marks the eighth consecutive regular season meeting between the two teams in which both have been ranked in the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Top 10.  The last time they faced when one was outside the top 10 or unranked was October 17, 2018, when Snow College was ranked seventh and SLCC was 14th.

During these top-10 meetings, it has come out as evenly as it could with a record of 3-3–1.  The Badgers will hope to tip the scales in their favor as the match is set to begin Thursday at 1 p.m.

HISTORY WITH TMCC: The Badgers have never lost against the Lizards of TMCC.  Snow College owns an unblemished 6-0 record reptiles.  The Badgers largest wins have each been 6-0 results on September 21, 2019 and April 10, 2021, respectively.

TMCC has not managed to score a single goal in the six-game history with Snow College.  The Badgers will hope to maintain its defensive prowess Saturday with the match set to begin at 12 noon MST.

UP NEXT:  Snow College will continue SWAC play with a trip to Henderson, NV to take on the College of Southern Nevada.  The 0-3 Lady Coyotes will host the Badgers Thursday, September 8 with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. MST.
