Â
The Snow College softball team faced off against Colorado Northwestern Community College Friday and Saturday. This series was the Badger's penultimate home series of the season. The weekend's doubleheaders saw Snow College snap a 16-game losing streak as the squad cruised past the Spartans at home.
Friday's games saw the Badgers win 17-6 and 18-5 while Saturday's games ended with final scores of 18-2 and 20-0. With these victories, Snow College improves to an overall record of 20-23 and a 12-20 record within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Â
In the Badger's last time out, they traveled to Las Vegas to take on the College of Southern Nevada. In that visit, Snow College was defeated 4-1 and 10-9 in Friday's matchups and 9-4 and 3-2 in Saturday's games.Â
Â
Following these defeats, the 16-23 Badgers returned to Ephraim to host the struggling 0-32 Spartans. The last series between these two teams was held March 24-25 in Ephraim. Snow College dominated the series, claiming Friday's games with scores of 21-0 and 24-6, and Saturday's games 18-4 and 21-0.Â
Â
The Badgers wasted no time scoring in the first game of the series.  In the first three frames, Snow College scored eight runs while allowing CNCC to score just two. Doubles fromÂ
Hadlee Walker and
Tasia Shibuya allowed the Badgers to have a monster third inning as the team totaled five runs.Â
Â
Snow College, however, would beat that performance and rally for nine runs on eight hits in the fourth inning. In that frame, five Badgers would hit singles whileÂ
Kaylee Lyman,
McCall Maxfield, and
Andrea Sweat each cranked triples. Despite the Spartan's four runs in the fifth inning, Snow College would push past CNCC 17-6 to claim game one.Â
Â
The Spartans were first to strike in game two, and the first inning came to a 2-1 close for CNCC. This lead, however, would be short lived as the Badges would combine for 13 runs over the next two frames. The third inning saw Snow College explode for 11 runs on seven hits. In that inning alone, the Badgers crushed three home runs, two of which were hit by
August Cowan and the other by Shibuya. Â
Â
Snow College's momentum continued, and the squad scored four more runs in the fourth frame. Game two ultimately came to an 18-5 close, and the Badgers finished the day undefeated.Â
Saige Ewing earned the win as she pitched five innings and finished with five strikeouts.Â
Â
As the teams met again on Saturday, Snow College started the day with a bang. The team combined for nine runs in the first inning of game three, and followed up with six runs in the second inning. The Badgers built this lead thanks to two home runs from
Bailey Bowers and one from Shibuya.Â
Â
