Men's Soccer Splits Home Matches With Lizards, Gladiators

The Snow College men's soccer team split a pair of home matches over the weekend to Truckee Meadows Community College and Pacific Northwest Christian College. The Badgers were defeated 1-0 vs TMCC Thursday while earning a 6-0 victory over PNCC Saturday.

The Badgers entered Thursday's matchup 1-1-1 overall following a 3-1 loss to the College of Southern Nevada the week prior.

The matchup with the Lizards was a physical one. A total of 34 fouls, eight yellow cards, and two red cards were issued throughout the match.

TMCC scored the lone goal of the game in the 36th minute.  The goal would turn out to be the only shot on goal the Lizards would have all game.  The Badgers, in turn, would put six shots on goal, but all six were turned away by the TMCC keeper.  The one goal would prove to be the difference and the Lizards held on to the 1-0 victory.

Following the defeat, the Badgers welcomed PNCC to town for the first time ever.  PNCC is a new member of the Scenic West Athletic Conference joining for the 2023-2024 season in soccer and football.

The Badgers scored one goal in the first half while adding five goals in the second half to claim the 6-0 victory.  Nefthaly Loya got the scoring started in the sixth minute opening up a 1-0 lead.  Loya would score the next two goals for the Badgers recording the first hat trick of the season for the team.

Jack Cook and Kala'e Woods provided the assists as Loya beat the keeper twice in the second half, once in the 51st minute and again in the 75th minute.  Woods provided another helper for Alex Morales in the 78thminute to give the Badgers a 4-0 lead.

Tomas Parra had the highlight of the day as he scored a goal in the 87th minute.  Luis Pantoja centered a pass to Parra near the top of the 18-yard box.  With his back to the net, Parra elevated, and bicycle kicked the ball to the right corner of the goal which found the back of the net.

Morales finished off the scoring for the Badgers in the 88th minute off an assists from Taiyoku Shimura.  The Badgers salted away the remaining time to earn their first shutout victory of the season, 6-0.

Snow College moves to 2-2-1 overall on the season and 1-2-1 within the SWAC.  The Badgers will continue its four-game home stretch this week as they will take on No. 15 Utah State University Eastern and Colorado Northwestern Community College.

They will take on the Eagles Thursday at 3:30 p.m. followed by a meeting with the Spartans Saturday at 1:30 p.m.  Both matches will be played at the Snow College Soccer Complex in Ephraim.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
