The Snow College men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against No. 4 Salt Lake Community College last Saturday. A goal from
Ryan Taylor with 18 seconds to play leveled the score and prevented the loss for the Badgers.
Snow College entered the weekend matchup coming off a 3-2 victory in its lone non-conference matchup of the season against Central Wyoming College. The Bruins on the other hand were an unblemished 4-0 on the season.
The last time these two teams met was in the final round of the 2022 Scenic West Athletic Conference Tournament in which the Badgers earned a 3-2 victory over the Bruins, who had not lost a game to that point in the season.
Saturday's matchup was a very physical contest. In total, 12 yellow cards and a red card were handed out throughout the match including six yellow cards against the Badgers. In addition to the cards, a total of 28 fouls were committed between the two teams.
The Badgers struck first in the 35
th minute as
Kazuki Ono fed a pass to
Jack Cook who snuck the ball past the keeper, giving Snow College a 1-0 lead. The 1-0 lead would stand throughout the remaining minutes of the first half.
The Bruins would turn things around midway through the second period. Two goals within 10 minutes of each other flipped the game on its head and gave SLCC the 2-1 lead with less than 15 minutes to play.
Snow College continued to play aggressively, forcing the Bruins to commit three fouls and two yellow cards in the final 13 minutes of action. It was the last of those fouls which gave the Badgers a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
Roberto Carlos served the ball into to pack, where Taylor finished it off, evening the score 2-2 with 18 seconds to play.
The Bruins were unable to score in the final 18 seconds of action and the Badgers walked away with a draw. The Badgers goalkeepers turned away seven of the Bruin's nine shots on goal to aid in the victory.
Snow College will now head to Henderson, Nevada to take on the College of Southern Nevada Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. MDT. For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
