Thomas Leads Badgers at Fall Brawl Tournament

The Snow College women's wrestling team kicked off their regular season at the Fall Brawl Tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado, last weekend.  Jennifer Thomas highlighted the open event by winning the 103-pound bracket.

The Badgers began the tournament with a pair of duals starting with Fort Hays State Friday.  Five Badgers earned points for the team led by Kinlee Brandley, who won via fall in just under six minutes.  Rachel Jones did not surrender a single point in the 110-pound bout and won via technical fall in just over 90 seconds.

Ashlea Larson won her matchup via decision in the 160-pound while Isabell Morgan and Maeli Howard each secured one point for the team in their matches.  It wasn't enough, however, and the Badgers suffered the 30-14 defeat.

Snow College then squared off with the host school Colorado Mesa University.  None of the wrestlers were able to win a match against the Division II school, but Morgan, Larson, and Howard did score one point each as the Badgers suffered a 42-3 loss.

The following day, the team participated in the open-style event.  It was the Badgers who dominated the 103-pound division.  Thomas breezed her way through her half of the bracket, winning two matches via fall and the other via technical fall.

Her teammate Brandley also made quick work of her bracket as she entered the championship bout following a win via fall and a 13-1 technical fall victory to square off with Thomas in the championship.  Thomas would come out on top via fall in 4:32 to win the first-ever Maverick Open Championship in program history for the team.

Jones also had an impressive showing as she finished in 2nd place in the 110-pound division.  Jones entered the championship matchup following a pair of dominant victories.  She won her first bout via technical fall with a 10-0 shutout before needing just 50 seconds to win the semifinal via fall.  She suffered a 12-1 loss via technical fall to finish second.

Neida Valle also placed for the Badgers in the 124-pound division.  She won each of her first two matchups via fall, the first in just 56 seconds, the second in 3:47, before dropping the semifinal matchup via technical fall.  She dropped to the consolation bracket where she would eventually finish in sixth place.

In total, the Badgers won a total of 37 matches throughout the weekend.  They will now head to Prescott, Arizona, for a dual with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Friday, Nov. 15.  For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
