The Snow College women's wrestling team earned a pair of victories at the Chadron State College Open last weekend in Chadron, Nebraska.  The Badgers also had five wrestlers finish in the top 3 at the Open event Saturday.
 
Snow College entered the weekend following a victory against Utah Tech University Nov. 22.  The Badgers owned a 1-3 overall record entering this weekend's events.
 
Snow College started the weekend in a matchup against NCAA Division II Chadron State University.  Three Badgers earned four points for the team via technical fall, beginning with Jennifer Thomas, who defeated her opponent in just under five minutes.  Valery Ethington and Isabelle Morgan both won via tech fall in 3:44 and 2:30, respectively. 
 
Hallie Carter was the lone Badger to win via fall.  She was able to pin her opponent in just 1:40 to secure five points for the team.  Maeli Howard and Chloe Colvin both secured points for Snow College as the team eked out a 24-23 victory.
 
Four Badgers earned points against Minot State via forfeit.  Carter again won her match by pinning her opponent in just under four minutes.  Ashlea Larson won her match via tech fall to help the Badgers secure the 29-20 victory.
 
Snow College placed 10 total wrestlers in the open-style event the following day, led by Morgan, who finished first in the 145-pound division.  She dominated her way through the tournament, winning her first match in just 53 seconds. She proceeded to win her next three matches, all by technical fall, and did not surrender a single point.
 
Thomas finished in second place in the 103-pound division.  She won her first match by decision before earning tech fall victories in her next two bouts to enter the championship round.  She suffered a close defeat losing to Jennesis Martinez, who is ranked fifth within the NCAA, via decision, 6-4.
 
Kinlee Brandley, Rachel Jones, and Howard both finished in third place in their respective weight divisions.  Brandley earned a tech fall victory before losing to Martinez in the 103-pound division.  Brandley proceeded to win via tech fall in the consolation bracket to enter the 3^rd-place matchup.  She won via fall in 2:44 to secure 3^rd place.
 
Jones earned a 10-0 tech fall victory before suffering a loss to drop into the consolation bracket.  She earned another shutout victory via tech fall before eking out a victory via decision to finish in 3^rd place.
 
Howard followed a similar path as she cruised into the semifinal of the 180-pound division.  She won her first match via tech fall, 10-0, before winning via fall in just 47 seconds in her second match.  Following a loss in the semifinal round, Howard won by tech fall over teammate Abigail Acosta before securing a victory via fall in 2:42 to claim 3^rd place.
 
Larson (160-pound division) and Leticia Garcia (145-pound division) both finished in fifth place.  Jamie Barton (110-pound division), Alize Acosta (160-pound division), and Abigail Acosta (180-pound division) all finished in sixth place during the event.
 
The Badgers will have one more match before the end of the calendar year as they travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take on Wartburg College Saturday, Dec. 21.  For additional information, visit snowbadgers.com.
