  • Following the 4-1 weekend in Arizona, Hailey Mangum was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week.  She slashed .733/.750/.800 while driving in eight RBIs.  She reached base 12 times while not striking out once during 16 plate appearances.

  • The Badgers recorded three shutouts at the Western Shootout.  Snow College is currently 11th in the nation in total shutouts to begin the season.

  • Snow College also ranks inside the top ten in a pair of hitting statistics.  As a team, the Badgers are hitting .405 while slugging a whopping .674 – both of which are good enough for ninth overall.

  • The Badgers have never played a game against any of the teams they will face at the Choccolocco Park Extravaganza.  The six teams they will face own a combined 24-51 overall record to start the 2024 season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College softball team collected four victories at the Chapman Automotive Great Western Shootout in Yuma, Arizona over the weekend.  The Badgers defeated Glendale Community College (10-0), Eastern Arizona College (9-6), Pima Community College (8-0), and Chandler-Gilbert Community College (8-0).

The Badgers entered the weekend following a 4-1 performance at the College of Southern Nevada Coyote Kickoff Classic.  The Badgers scored 57 runs in Henderson – the most of any team in the nation during the season's opening weekend.

Snow College kicked off the weekend against Phoenix College and suffered a 5-2 loss.  The Bears started the game off with a three-run blast in the first inning.  They would add a pair of runs in the sixth before the Badgers scored just twice – an Andrea Sweat homer and a Haddie Hadley double – in the bottom of the seventh to suffer the loss.

The Badgers had two more games scheduled for Thursday, but those games were canceled due to rain in the area.  Instead, the Badgers squared off with GCC Friday.  Snow College scored two runs in each of the first two innings on RBI singles before Hailey Mangum plated to more on an RBI single in the third.

The Badgers exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead.  A Gracie Brooks triple and a McCall Maxfield double were interlaced with run-scoring at bats by Tasia Shibuya and Mangum.  The Badgers would add one more run in the fifth and claim the 10-0 victory via run rule.

Snow College's second game on Friday was against EAC.  The Badgers scored a trio of runs in the first inning before McCall Maxfield blasted a two-run homer to right field to give them a 5-0 lead.  The Gila monsters responded with a six-run top of the fifth to take the lead.

The Badgers wasted no time in recapturing the lead.  Hallie Young plated a pair of runs on a sharp line drive to right field to give the Badgers a 7-6 lead.  Snow College would add two more in the sixth and capture the 9-6 victory.

An opening-day rematch pitted the Badgers against PCC Saturday morning.  The Badgers broke the ice with a run in the second inning before plating two more in the third thanks to a Maxfield double and a Kamryn Allen sacrifice fly.

Hadley doubled in another run in the fourth before a passed ball and a sacrifice fly gave the Badgers two more tallies and a 6-0 lead.  Shibuya put a stamp on the game with a two-run shot to left field as the Badgers claimed the 8-0 victory in six innings.

It was a pair of four-run innings that propelled the Badgers to victory over CGCC.  Ayden Fitch scored on a Mangum single which preceded a bases-clearing triple from Sweat to give the Badgers a 4-0 lead in the third.

Mangum once again started the rally in the bottom of the fourth inning as she drove in two runs on another single.  Allen followed that up with a ringing double to plate two more as the Badgers cruised to their second 8-0 victory of the day.

It wasn't just offense that carried the Badgers to a 4-1 weekend.  Kenley Henson and Andrea Sweat did not allow an earned run in 11.1 combined innings pitches.  Saige Ewing allowed six earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched.

Ewing also carried a perfect game into the sixth inning against the Aztecs Saturday.  A single to start the inning spoiled things as Ewing allowed just the one hit in six complete innings to collect the win inside the circle.  Defensively, the Badgers committed just two errors over the weekend.

Mangum led the charge offensively for the Badgers as she went 11-15, drove in eight RBIs, and scored four times.  Shibuya went 8-16 over the five games while hitting four extra-base hits and scoring seven runs.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will begin SWAC play as they head to Price to face Utah State University Eastern Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2 for a four-game series.  The Eagles are 5-0 this season following victories at the College of Southern Nevada Coyote Kickoff Classic.  They will host Northwestern Junior College in a four-game series beginning Saturday.  First pitch for March 1 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Utah State Eastern Field in Price.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.
