Badgers Host No. 6 Bruins in Final Home Series

GAME NOTES

  • The Snow College softball team will conclude its home schedule with a four-game series against No. 6 Salt Lake Community College Wednesday and Thursday in Ephraim.  The final home series of the season was moved up in the week due to poor weather forecasted this weekend.

  • The Badgers are coming off a series against the No. 7 College of Southern Idaho last weekend during which they suffered four losses.  Snow College went 1-7 during the season against the Golden Eagles.

  • The Badgers are sitting in third place within the Scenic West Athletic Conference Standings.  After clinching a playoff berth earlier in the season, the Badgers need two more victories in their final eight games to lock up the three seed in the conference tournament at the end of the season.

  • McCall Maxfield led the charge for the Badgers offensively against the Golden Eagles as she went 4-8(.500/.556/1.250) with a pair of homers and five RBIs.  Andrea Sweat also hit two homers while going 5-11(.455/.538/1.091) at the plate.  The Badgers hit .292 as a team and hit eight home runs during the four-game series.

  • Snow College was swept by the Bruins when the two teams met earlier in the season in Taylorsville.  Snow College scored just seven runs during the four-game series which is the lowest run total the team has scored over any four-game stretch this season.  The Badgers are averaging 7.7 runs per game as a team this season.

  • SLCC ranks among the nation's best in myriad categories.  As a team, they have struck out just 70 times this season, which is the lowest mark across NJCAA Division I.  The Bruins are fifth in total runs scored (477), second in batting average (.444), Second in on-base percentage, and fourth in slugging percentage.

  • The Badgers are just 10-104 against the Bruins since 2010 including a 4-48 mark in Ephraim.  They have lost 35 of their last 37 games to the Bruins with their last win coming in a 13-2 victory last season.

UP NEXT: The Badgers will wrap up their regular season with a four-game series against Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely.  Snow College swept the Spartans when the two teams met earlier in the season.  CNCC owns a 1-41 overall record and a 1-31 mark within conference play.  Friday's matchup is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader slated for a 12:00 first pitch.  For video streaming and live stat information, visit snowbadgers.com.

LAST TIME OUT: The Snow College softball team's season-long winning streak was stopped at seven games after being swept by No. 9 College of Southern Idaho.  The Badgers sit at 30-19 overall and 19-13 within Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Snow College entered the matchup off the heels of a seven-game winning streak, including a four-game sweep against the College of Southern Nevada last weekend.  The seven-game winning streak was the longest of the season for the Badgers.

It was an offensive explosion for both teams to begin game one.  The Golden Eagles used a pair of singles to score three runs in the first inning.  The Badgers responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning thanks to a three-run homer by Kamryn Allen and a solo homer from McCall Maxfield.

CSI regained the lead with five runs in the second.  A home run from Brenley Boydston and an RBI single from Ayden Fitch trimmed the lead to 8-6.  After a run in each of the third and the fourth innings from CSI, Andrea Sweat and Maxfield further cut into the deficit with homers in the bottom of the fourth.  The Golden Eagles put the game to rest with 10 runs in the fifth inning and went on to win 20-9.

Each team put up a run in the first inning of game two, Snow College's coming on a double from Sweat.  The game stayed scoreless for the next two innings before an eight-run fourth gave the Golden Eagles the lead and subsequently a 9-1 victory.

It was another big inning that aided the Golden Eagles as they pushed across six runs in the opening frame. Sweat and Allen each drove in runs in the bottom of the inning to trim the lead to 6-2.  Following a run in the top of the third, Sweat delivered a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but the Badgers still trailed 7-4.

The fifth inning followed a similar suit as a single CSI tally in the top of the inning preceded a Maxfield two-run single bringing the score to 8-6.  The Golden Eagles responded with a pair of runs in each of their next two frames.  Allen edged the Badgers closer with a two-run homer in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Badgers suffered the 10-8 loss.

The Badgers scored just one run in game four of the series.  It came on a Hailey Mangum homer in the bottom of the second inning.  CSI scored a run in the top of the first inning before scoring four in the fourth to capture the 5-1 victory.

Maxfield led the charge for the Badgers offensively as she went 4-8(.500/.556/1.250) with a pair of homers and five RBIs.  Sweat also hit two homers while going 5-11(.455/.538/1.091) at the plate.  The Badgers hit .292 as a team and hit eight home runs during the four-game series.
